Hi Olivier,
I've used zipties on various places on the bike for almost three years, and they all remain tight and secure. It's worth noting that the loads are pretty small (solenoid, Heat-Troller control box, garage remote, Eastern Beaver single relay, each fairly light), the climate here is mild, and the bike lives in a garage. I carry some spares, and don't worry about it.

Oliver,
I followed David's instructions a couple of years ago, and have been happy with my FIAMM dual horns ever since, and have had no problems with the zip ties. Plus I was able to keep my cannister.
OTOH, we do not have cold winters out here...

I use zip ties to hold things in place but wouldn't use them to actually hold something on. I do carry long ones just in case, I guess they are the space age equivalent of bailing wire. BTW: when you cut off the end you should use a special tool, if you don't, you leave an end like a little razor blade that will give a nasty cut.
I got the tool and what I thought was a lifetime supply (but I out lived the supply) of tie wraps (zip ties) from a previous job.

NB that the zip ties on our bikes do
not hold the horns in place; the horns are bolted to metal brackets. I'm only using zip ties for lighter adjunct stuff.
