Fishing....

Here's the fly rod I just bought, I got it and the reel for this price as a package deal, with line. Now I have to go to some mountain to do some trout fishing!

Here's the bait casting rod I use, with some inexpensive reel with 10 lb. line. Mine's a 3 peice and came with a case, the one in all the pics.

Here's the ulta-light, and I have to say that this is my favorite. I caught more fish on this one, and it has great value with the low cost. Mine's a light action one, unlike the one listed here. I use a Shimano reel on it with 4 lb line, and don't use the case. This one's the best buy if you want to get a travel rod IMO.

I have a Bass Pro Power Plus colapsable spinner rod with 8 lb. line on it, it's like my Medium rod, I can't find a link for it though.

I use my Nalgene bottle to transport minnows, then put them in my Helen2Wheels mesh bag and keep them in the lake. The looks I get when I hand them the bottle and say, "I'll take 2 dozen minnows please". are hilarious.
A leatherman and filet knife completes the necessities

thanks for the fishing info. i love one piece rods, which of course do not work on motorcycles. i am going to look into those 4 piece fly rods.

there are some stocked trout streams in iowa. Backbone State Park near Strawberry Point, Iowa is a favorite. It is a nice place. Probably an easy weekend get away from Chicago. My friends also tell me that a ultralight spinning tackle works great on those small streams. The vegetation on the banks and small stream size can make fly casting more of a hassle than anything.

Nice photos. I can see why your pegs are ground down!

ChiTown - learn the roll cast and you won't have to worry about the vegetation or trees behind you. It's the first cast you should learn anyway. You'll use it a lot on small streams.

I don't know how big the rivers are where you are going to fish, but a 4-5 piece, 4wt, Sage or WinstonLT 8'-8'6" rod seems like it would fit most situations from the pictures you posted from Arkansas. If the rivers are like that, you could probably even get by with a 3wt which would make the fight more fun. Of course, we are talking about $650 just for the rod. Then you have to get a reel. You will do it though. We all do. And there is never one fly rod for all your needs.

Here's a few more proof shot's from the first day at Deal's Gap, from a different photagrapher. I was fully loaded this day, so I wasn't quite grinding the pegs much. It's kind of intense going from full left to full right over and over with the gear onboard. I figure all my stuff with bags weighs about 90 pounds. While the 1200R feels fine loaded you can still feel it...
