I bought my R1150R in September of 2001. Since the day of purchase my bike never started on the first try from “COLDâ€Â. I did complain to the dealer, but was unsuccessful. After 600 miles service, I was soooooo impressed……, that I never let anybody touch my bike again. I did all the maintenance my self, by the book, but could never get my bike to start from the first try at “COLDâ€Â. For a long time I was looking at the left throttle body and the black box attached to it, the one with the 2 screws painted with blue color paint. On my bike only one screw was painted. That is the switch that dealer and the owners manual says “DO NOT TOUCH†or your warranty is gone. I was really tempted to “TOUCH†it but one day witnessed at the dealership how my riding buddy was charged 6 hours of labor for replacement of that switch. A while back I have stumbled upon some writing about the adjustment of that throttle switch. I just pinched the last (from left to right) wire with the needle and checked the reading with the Volt meter. Sure enough, the setting was way off. Since I am at the sea level, the reading was suppose to be 390 mVolt. The actual range is from 370 to 400 mV. My Volt meter was reading 250. Of course it did not take me 6 hours to adjust 2 screws, but it did take some time to get it right. You tighten it just a bit and the Voltage changes drastically. Since I got it at 390 mV, my bike always starts form the first try, regardless of the temperature. I keep the RPM at 1050 and my bike loves it. I don’t know if this will solve your problem, but it sure did solve mine.
Good luck.
Good luck.
