What are the causes of the surge? Bad gas, engine out of tune or operator error. Is this only happen to 2002 model?

If this surge occur, I can tell my Japanese mechanic to correct.

All three to one degree or another.

The Motronic is programmed to meet EU2 and the then current U.S. standard for emissions. Thus, at low RPM and load, it simply cannot adapt to the large variance in U.S. gasoline mixtures (47 different regional blends at last count). Good engine tune and realistic rider practices mitigate the effect.

What got me into this mess, I did take the safety course last fall. Rekindled my young days when many pounds less and around 16 I did lots of dirt biking....etc. Now the thirst grew and I started looking into used bikes.

Never could find what I thought I wanted. Almost bought a Valk thought about it but for this time too much weight. The 1150R fits the bill for maybe 1-2 yrs or I will add-on after-market or oem goodies to tweak the look.

How ever I still need to break the ice.....Better to ask for forgiveness vs permission to do! Maybe this weekend.

Well we (my son and I) broke the good news to the wife Friday night. After two words like ("dumb as%") she was pretty civil about it. Of course she has no idea what a R1150R is and what a great price I purchased it. I am sure once it is back here she may have a few words to dig just a touch.

Now my son plans to take the Safe Riders Course etc. He seems to have taken as much ownership into this one as I. Oh well.

I look forward to discussing and searching here in the listings. I plan on picking up the bike in a month or so. Might as well let them store it for free for me. Until then .........

Involve your family in your new hobby. (or try to) Some wives like bikes, some don't.

Most importantly-----buy and use good safety gear! Riding jacket, pants, gloves and boots. Buy a good helmet. Some of the safest out there are the least expensive. But the most valuable piece of safety gear available you already have----------your head!

What accessories are you lookin for now?

Right now the only item I might add is a windshield. Now just trying to educate myself on sizing etc. I am long in the trunk and will be very important in keeping the wind blast off of my chest and face.

Secondly riding gear is important to me. I have a helmet, not full mask, Not sure if I like them....of course I understand safety issues, but I did not like the feeling I got when fully closed. I rate this to my younger years with dirt bikes and open face style and goggles.

Jacket, pants and boots are on the list also. Again I want to try on items but I am a big guy and not many at least now have the xxl and xxxl sizes I need.

But this is a project ever moving!

Sometimes bigger is not better in the windshield department, but everyone has their own opinion.

If you have a day, a ride down to Iron Pony in Columbus can put you in touch with a lot of gear that you can try on. It is an old K Mart full of motorcycle gear. They usually have a wide variety of sizes.

Go for the '02 put on a Russell seathttp://www.day-long.com and go riding. Verholen also sells peg extenders that will drop the pegs about an inch.
Cycleport http://www.motoport.com makes very good custom riding gear. I have had my Ultra II Kevlar Jacket Jacket and Pants since '03 and they have held up well.

Well for some reason when the site changed I had trouble getting logged into the site. Do to the fact I could never get it corrected, I established a new contact name.

The financing is complete and now I am trying to figure out if I should add a touring screen or and BMW saddle bags.
If I do it only adds $30 more per month in payments. I guess better than plunking down hard cash if I purchase afterword.

Touring screens I have looked at them all. I do not think the BMW one will be tall enough, since I am long in the trunk. We will measure me when I go back to the dealer this coming week. Others I have looked at are: Cee Bailey, Parabellum and Aeroflow. I also like the idea of adding a second lip to the screen to help defuse the airflow. The name slips me at the moment but as far as expenses go it is a relatively cheap purchase.. $70 +/-. Anyone have an experiences with all of the above?

Saddle bags I feel I will add. Sort of a no brainer.

The bags are a no brainer. Nothing looks as good, or functions as good. You can look online for used bags for either the 1150R or 1150GS, too.

Check the buy sell sections here and some other BMW sites for the windshields, since you could get a deal.
