Sign me up for a box that replaces the rear seat. A rack on top would be good. The plastic rockster back seat cover I would like to find in a sturdy aluminum with bungee hooks.

Gonna try out a few things. Might be a lttle while, as its colder than a witches nipple here and i gotta go to the garage to get measurements-n-stuff

I had a setup similar to a Pirates Lair made on a recent trip overseas, but haven't ride tested it yet.
My next idea is an improved luggage rack. On our first road trip MLW & would have liked a better one, sized to fit a duffel bag.
Key design considerations that I have thought of are:
- should bolt into same holes used for luggage rack
- made of lightweight tubing w/ bent vice mitered corners (lots of bungee / tie-down space & no sharp edges)
- about 2/3 to 3/4 as wide as overall width of installed hard-bags
- sturdy enough for 1/2 case or case of 12 oz canned liquids
- structured so as to add strength to bag mount racks (keep from canting outboard)
- maybe function as attachment point for backrest

Has anyone made any prototypes of this kind of thing?

Please don't limit yourself to the R1150R. Myself and many K1200RS/GT owners have a desperate need for a backing plate for mounting mirrors on our fairings. Other than upgrading the suspension, its one of the best mods you can do on those bikes. Unfortunately, many of us cannot achieve it because we don't have the fabrication skills or equipment to create the backing plate. There was once a kit available but it is not sold anymore. Many riders have created their own plates and their work is well documented on various sites. Much of the work has been done in designing the plate but no one has thought of producing the plate for others. There have been a number of approaches in design. Let me know if you are interested. I can help with R & D but not fabrication. I have recently purchased a used nose fairing for undertaking this mod. I don't want to cut into my tupperware until I have a method or source for the backing plate. Contact me at [email protected]

I remember a few years ago someone doing this on the Adventure Rider board to an 1150GS. He had detailed photos posted to the web, It was quite impressive. You should be able to find it if you search for "luggage rack".

Alright guys....if you have any drawings or sketches of stuff you think might be a good addition to your bike, send em my way and i'll see what i can do to get em made. Send em via email in pdf, dxf, dwg, or any other cad format you may have, even MS paint will work . I would really like to expand my ability and fabrication resources to other bikes, but the problem is I only have a Rockster to take measurements from. Perhaps not a bike piece, but useful nonethless:

Storage rack for system cases when off the bike. Yes, someone posted a homebrew option here on R1150R.net (or one of the older boards), e.g. simple structure made of wood... but how about a nice setup that provides rails for left and right cases, keeps the goods off the floor and easy to load/unload. Imagine rack/rails fixture that attaches to a rolling base, perhaps the business end of an office chair (casters, base, and pneumatic up/down thingamajig), or maybe just fits over the top of a cheap utility "sawhorse".

Another idea that's been on my mind for awhile:

Oilhead jig for motorcycle jack - a weld-up structure that attaches to the bottom/front eyelet in the motor cases via a shear pin, and also supports/grabs the bike near the center stand pivot mounts. Such a jig could be attached to the bike and used to lift the entire bike off the ground via a motorcycle jack (similar to http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-lift/). Would simplify many maintenance tasks without the need for full-size motocycle "Handy" lift. Need to replace tires? Attach jig to bike, lift and go!

Similar to that mentioned previously - a center stand skid plate would be useful, especially if the bottom/rear edge of skid plate contained a powerful magnet for those pesky turn signal gaussian field detectors. I sometimes find myself trying to trip those stubborn turn lane things by pressing the centerstand down to the ground (bike keeps on running, unlike the dummy kill switch in the sidestand!) but theres not enough metal in the centerstand to trigger the turn lane controls.

Finally, wish we had an inexpensive option for adjustable Paralever strut. Example:

I was actually thinking about making a set of those as well. But they might be a bit pricey. I know suburban makes a relocation kit (not adjustable) and those are $130+. So adjustable ones would probably cost even more

This idea came from the day I came home from work and found my r sitting on it's right side. Had been knocked over by either a neighbor's car (they denied it) or high winds. At any rate there was $1300 damage just from falling over. (it was on the side stand) My thought was to have an adjustable and extendable side stand on the right side (sorta like having a small outrigger) that would fold up like a standard side stand but you could fold it down and extend it down with adjustable telescoping sections that lock in place with set screws or a locking knurl. Just something to add some stability when parked in parking lots and so on. I guess many of us have had our bikes fall over or get knocked over by various culprits. I know I get somewhat nervous watching mine in the carport when the wind is real strong. I was thinking that something machined from aluminum or similar that could hinge to fold up out of the way. Several places to mount on the lower side of the bike frame. Might not be a good idea but it's mine!

What about an affordable alternative to the Condor bike stand that can be used in a truck or byitself?
Could be used by owners of all makes of bikes.

Good idea about the parking stabilizer bar(s).

Might a provision for stabilizer bar(s) be made in a centerstand skid plate? Say, two machined eyes that would accept a standard piece of pipe, to extend width of the centerstand contact with ground?

I second the adjustable ParaLever strut.
Also, valve cover crash brackets that'll protect them in a tip-over and a low/medium speed dump/lowside.

Because those parts will fit many OilHeads, your ROI will be great and you will be famous.

I saw a demonstration of the Condor at the Cleveland bike show. It was pretty cool. Seemed to be pretty easy to make as well, nothing but a couple pieces of angle and U metal.

I'd like to make something that everyone would be interested in, no onesy two'sy things. I wanted to do a poll to see what you guys want, but didnt want to start another thread for the same subject. Is there a way to do a poll in this thread? If not, just post which item/s you would be most interested in. Mind you, some of the items in the list will be harder to make than others. But i'd give whichever one or two items are most popular a try.

Obviously my first vote would be for what affected me directly (hit my wallet) -- the sidestand brace for right hand side.

My second vote would be for the cylinder head guards. Although there is some danger here. If you have something too durable then you run the risk of doing more expensive damage to the jugs themselves rather then just having to replace damaged protectors.
