I trimmed off 2.5inch using a Milwaukee sawzal with a fine metal blade. First, get some wide masking tape. tape the front of the shield over the area to be cut. Make sure to tape at least a couple inches below the cut line to avoid scratching the shield. Using a marker, mark on the masking tape where you want to cut. With someone else to help steady the shield, just cut it... it cuts like butter... I found holding the saw close or up against the shield reduces shake and makes cutting easier.

Once cut, take a file and smooth out your cut and to create a slight rounding (to match the rest of the edges). when smooth, take sand paper and a block and really get it smooth...

Remove the tape, blow off the dust and your done!

Mine looks as good as new only shorter...

Hope this helps.

My Ztechnik w/s arrived yesterday. I'll get it mounted this weekend, and post some photos. Nice quality stuff.

Edit:
Ok, with the help of a buddy (this really is a two-man job), I installed the Ztechnik windshield last night, then went for about a hundred-mile ride.

Comments above don't do the buffeting it creates justice - I find it unbearable. I ride w/ear plugs, and even then it's simply not something a guy would want to put up with for a long ride (or a ride to the local coffee shop). Something's going to have to give, or this sucka's going to ebay. I sent Laminar an email asking if they knew of a lip they make that might fit the windscreen - I told them that I'd be willing to send them the windscreen if that would help - I'll let you know what they say. I also thought about cutting an old HD windshield that I have in the attic, to see if I could make a lip of my own design.

I really do like the way it looks, and I swear, it's strong enough to be a roll bar.. but.. functionally it pretty much sucks.

MTF...

The Ztechnik is a great product. Nicely built and looks great. But....
Like many of you the buffeting and noise it creates is unbelievable. I am actually surprised they released this product like this...
As I said before I cut 2.5 inches off... after riding it again I determined that it STILL was too tall and it still caused unacceptable noise...
So I cut an additional inch off making it a 15inch shield... Now... IT IS PERFECT!!!!

I am only 5'8" so you mileage may vary, but now I am extremely happy with this shield. At this height it looks really good too.
Don't give up on this shield until you try shortening it. It really isn't that hard to do. The material and thickness of the shield has no problem taking the vibration of cutting it down.
I don't have a digital camera available right now, but it truely looks good and complements the lines of the bike quite nicely. I have had several people say the same thing.
