I assume you flew into LA and where did you rent the bike?

I didn't rent. I borrowed the bike, but I'm pretty sure there are places you can rent BMW's out there.

Also, you ever get east? We have some fabulous rides here in VA/WA area too...so come on out!

I have been in that area a few times, but never with a bike and always with work to do. However, I was able to explore the Appalachians each time and you are correct - that is a beautiful part of the country and I was able to travel some fabulous roads that would have been better had I been on a bike! Of all the places I've visited out east so far - West Virginia is by far my favorite.

Thanks! Now you've made me wish I'd stopped my oddysey from Louisville to Seattle long enough to take the camera out of the tankbag for at least a few quick snaps. But your talent with a camera puts me to shame... Darn!

And those tumbleweeds? The Texas variety that I hit at 80 mph in a 40 mph sidewind, can be sort of "distracting"! Couldn't believe how much of them were still impaled on the S when I got to New Mexico. Persistent little things from Russia! (But have always liked their euphonious scientific name...Salsola kali...kind of rolls off the tongue like they roll across the plains.)

And those cows? One of the oldest breeds...known as Highlands or Scottish Highlands. And yes, I did see more than a few of those in the Scottish Highlands about 10 years ago.

Having lived in Northern Nevada for a big portion of my years, I'm pretty familiar with Northern California byways. Had no idea there were quite so many excellent motorcycle roads in the southern half. Perhaps I need to go explore a few...!
