On my tank, since I have the white stripes - I cut the film so the side edges fall within the white stripe. Makes them pretty much disappear. The front and rear edges start/end where the tankbag edges are, so with the tankbag on (which it always is..) it's pretty much invisible.

I do have the Parabellum and can't say as I notice any wind coming up around the tank, at least not enough to cause any turbulence, much less buffeting.

Edit update: I just rode into a pouring rainstorm on the freeway and noticed my windscreen and helmet were immediately covered with a bazillion drops of water, and after about a 10 minute trip through the rain, the tank had maybe a hundred scattered drops on it. Tells ya something about the protection afforded by the Scout.

And I am NOT wacky today... I just don't have sense enough to come in out of the rain!

I had to wipe my bike down after a trip to the north shore today, it was covered in disgusting cherry blossom petals...

I went out for a ride at the weekend, just a short blast of about 20 miles, the first ride since september and despite balaclava and full face helmet my face was bloody cold.
I hadn't got my tank bag on and i think that is the problem cos i usually have it with me and i've done a ride in minus 7 C before and never noticed the cold on my face whilst i had the bag on.
When i first got the bike and put the bag on (magnetic with strap for round risers) the bag took off from the tank on the motorway at about 80mph and now i have to put a bungie over the strap at the front to hold it down.

Now the RR is a great bike and i think it's a keeper but riding in the cold like this is a bit of a bummer if i don't take the bag. I'm thinking of splashing out on the Wunderlich fairing as not only does it look good but i also think it will stop the buffeting as it should direct the airflow around the front of the tank. Can anyone enlighten me on this please

Could you let us know what kind of spray shield you come up with for the Scout?

I agree, Nigel. My tank bag has not 'lifted off' yet (upwards of 200kp/h), but that's only because the magnets are VERY strong.
The air coming up the front of the tank is quite powerful, and routinely blows the bag's rain cover off. Without the bag, that wind goes right up under the front of my helmet, making life miserable in foul weather. It's bloody cold, and the noise is quite pronounced...

I think it's time I started thinking about a fairing too. How can I convince the wife that this is not breaking my 'no more farkles' promise?

This is what I've been thinking too. Although it looks good that alone wouldn't have me forking out £££s for it. But if it had a positive effect on the buffeting-that's another matter entirely. I'd also appreciate some input from riders who have experience of these fairings please.

Nigel, how are you doing? I said I'd contact you in time for the Imbolc festival but it took place sooner than I remembered so we missed it.

One of the reasons I prefer a strapped on tank bag is the security of it being strapped on. I get very little cold to the face with a Shuberth C2 helmet, an RKA tankbag and the Cee-Bailey 20" on a modified BMW mount (tilted back.) Seems comfortable up to 80-85MPH, and temperature doesn't matter a bunch.

Small edit - I do notice the tank bag rain cover (which goes over the bag with an elastic around the bottom) does tend to balloon up on me at speed, to the point where I put a small bungie around it. Haven't tried it yet with the tilted back shield, so dunno if it will make much difference, but I suspect not. Probably the wind coming up the fork-tube cutouts that is causing the ballooning.

Rumor Control has it that if you take a bath in Rain-X before you do that, there will be no bazillion drops of water on you.

I'm not doing too bad mate thanks, hope you're ok yourself, glad we've nearly shaken off winter and can get some miles in soon.
I was at another do when imbolc was on so was out of the village anyway.
I'll give you a shout sometime if i'm goin out for a bit of a ride
