Ashamed to admit I got caught doing 162mph once. Well, not "caught" exactly,.... more like given a roasting when I decided to slow down.

It was the first (and last time) I did that speed on a bike. The traffic cop opening his lecture with..
" This police car has a specially tuned 2.5 litre V6 turbo-charged engine capable of 150mph flat out..........which is normally more than enough for our 70mph speed limit roads. However, I was flat out for over 4 miles and not catching you....so what speed were you doing?.......and don't say 80!

Sadly, it wasn't on a BMW, I am pleased to say it was a long time ago (when I was young and foolish) , but the best bit....I got away with a £40 spot fine and just 3 points.

Never had to eat so much humble pie ...Luckiest ever escape for my licence!

(Will never forget how fast the countryside whizzes by at that speed - reminded me of Startrek going into warp speed)

Hmm double look at the 150mph (not kph). Havent quite made it there. The preparations for such a move in this state require extensive preparation. Check tyres, fuel, do an intial check of road for debris etc, check for radars, check for helicopters, empty body cavities of waste..do the U turn and awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..Yeehah!!
I guess the fear of death diminishes as we seem to have more yesterdays than tomorrows.

I guess the BMW advertising machine works...

I've done 135 gps on my R with full cases and a 20" Cee Bailey. I had a case handle pop at 120 (it was not locked) so be careful! 150 indicated is awefully fast on an R. Did 170 gps on my Hayabusa; whoops were the issue, not potholes. Living on the flat prairies means there's plenty of track day venues availble.

IIRC, the OEM bags say max speed is 100 mph.

I read that after hitting 125, and felt lucky.

And I try VERY hard NOT to rely on luck!

But then I wore my first Road Attack rear down to the steel belt.

135 on the speedo is my max while crossing Death Valley. Not sure what the gps said. I like the bike at 100 to 110 - it feels good there.

I agree - in my bike loves to be in the 140-180km/h range in open country, and my not-so-uncommon road speed away from policed highways is to lope about 140 (~90mph) and run up to 160 km/h when the fancy takes me or visibility allows. "Evil Billy" (as my mates call him ) rides about 160km/h, up to 180 - but that's with other cop-bait around (hi, friends). Around 110-120km/h on open country roads will generally be tolerated by police (but you're at risk of a stickler), more than 30km/h over and you lose your licence a mandatory 3 months (40 km/h over = 4 months).

200km/h or more on our country roads requires intense concentration - few roads are smooth enough that the bike won't move about quite a bit. So while I've done it, it is rare - perhaps once per trip or riding day, and then only for a small distance.
