I sealed the little hole to make it water proof. Notice that the lid has a gasket.

I also cut off the brackets so it fits easier into my side case. If I ever figure out where to mount it, I will use hose clamps or zip ties.

I am tempted by Strange's solution of hose clamping an MSR bottle to the back of the bags, although doing the same with a fine single malt may be a mistake.

OK, back from my little 2k jaunt to NW Arkansas. Testing the water bottle brackets--they worked great. The size of the goof-off can was a good size for oil, btw. I used under a pint for the whole trip. I did not have need of the extra gas, though it was a surprising comfort to have with me when I saw that little yellow light glow.

And the Lagavulin 16 just does NOT fit in the tube, just a little too tall for it, like one or two threads worth--maybe a Macallans? (totally OT--have you tried Ardweg 10? verrrrrry nice)

So, I am going to mount the tube before the Harriman bash. Not sure if:

I will just mount and allow the bracket to flex?

Try to heat the bracket to bend it a bit?

Put a spacer between a screw head and the system case?

I think I am going to go with the first idea and if it breaks, no biggie; I have another to play with.

Or maybe a combo of a small spacer and allowing it to flex a bit?

I mounted the Agri Tooltube on my R1150R. It was mounted under the rear fender, across and in between the bags using 2 aluminium L-brackets. Can't recall if I had pics but will dig. The wonderful thing is that with the bags in place there is no access to the tube and hence the pannier bags are like a lock to the tube. However, when I went for a ride the tube was damaged and broke off the tabs. I can only surmise that the tube broke off at the joints where the brackets started out from the tube; those are weakpoints and likely that my suspension went near bottom and the tube hit the rear tyre. I lost a fair bit of tools on that trip

WOW!! What a great idea and deal. Suprised more of you weren't swayed by the very costly ($139) GT Moto Tool-Tube. My question is how well will it fit on a f800st or r1200st AND has anyone figured out how to lock it?

I was thinking about mounting mine in nearly the same way but I wondered if upon bottoming out the suspension (I'm no small sprite) if there wouldn't be tire interference - thanks for answering this question

do you mean lock so it doesn't unscrew by itself or so that no one can get into it?

drill a hole through and through the cap and thread--pass a wire clip through.

I don't think I am going to worry about that though. It screws on pretty tightly.

This is the bend that is needed to fit nearly flush. The original is in the rear.



I heated the bracket with a propane torch while applying pressure. The tube was held in a vise. It doesn't take much of a bend to fit nearly flush.



I will mount it over the weekend and will allow it to tilt downward to the front so stuff doesn't fall out when opened. I will also put some glue on the drain hole to make it water-tight. It will carry tools.

I love this stuff. I can't wait to see it finished. I hope you take some carb cleaner and wipe those markings off. Without them, I bet this is going to look great.

I have no carburetor cleaner--but I'll try goof off or gasoline.

Those graphics do face the ground so they really won't be seen, though

When I said "lock" I meant that no one can get to the contents. You see, to open the tooltube mounted under the tail, the left or right pannier would have to be removed to make room to unscrew the tube's cap. So if the pannier stayed on the bike, then the tube is "locked" in the sense that it cannot be opened to remove the contents. Very elegant, I may say. I may try it again, using my own aluminium brackets riveted to the tube, and ride around potholes to see if the tooltube will be damaged. Time, my friends, that I do not have at the present I have figured out other places to mount it on the bike but none as secured in terms of lockability as under the tail.

Yes, the yellow markings can be easily removed with petrol.

Not mounted in that picture, but yes, that is where the muffler would be. Mine has been off for a long time.

The hardware required or better put, what I used:
4 socket head (hex) cap screws 1/4x20 3/4"
4 bonded sealing washers (rubber and metal sealed together) 1/4" x 5/8"
4 brass washers
4 nylon insert lock nuts 1/4 x 20

The heads of the screws are mounted inside the case. Between the head of the screw and the case is the sealing washer, then the case, the bracket, the brass washer and finally the locknut.
So in cross section from inside the case to exterior

screw---sealing washer---system case---agrisupply tube bracket---brass washer---locknut

This is how it looks (and goof off removed all yellow paint very easily)

Where I am from theft is a serious issue.

Anyway, a cursory glance at your bike will show that you have a cool looking exhaust!

You know that is pretty cool. It eliminates maybe my only objection to removing my own muffler which was the gaping hole between the left bag and the bike.

However, having gone to Notre Dame, a school that once had a Division 1-A football team, I take exception to the LSU sticker. On the other hand, it means that the case is full of beer, which makes us good friends.

That's a shame that ND gave up football. On the other hand it is nice that they provide halfway house services for gastric bypass patients.

Guess you can't do both.

That 'patient' is gone; we now have a new coach. We "may" be back. I lost count of the number of coaches we have had trying to get back into contention so have admittedly lost some of my MoJo. That's what happens when you go to a school that requires its students be able to read and write.

A-Ha! That's the problem! Notre Dame is way too hard to spell. And what are the colors? Gold and Navy? Gold and Green? Gold and White?

LSU is easy to spell. As is my other school, which incidentally requires its students to read, and write, and GRADUATE. They are not too shabby on the court and have kept their Hall of Fame coach for 30 years: DUKE!

That sticker is soon to appear on the case.
