Well said, and so true!

hey, you don't know if you don't ask.
Joe put some semi-knobbies on his R12R. I don't know if real knobbies come in as wide a width as the rims on the R12R require. And they do pretty much suck on the street (from someone who used to ride his dirty bikes to work..)

Found'm: http://www.us.pirelli.com/web/tyres-cat ... fault.page

Looks like Pirelli came out with an on/off road tire that is a bit more biased toward road: http://www.us.pirelli.com/web/tyres-cat ... fault.page

This is what I have on my bike ... love them! Don't have much of a data point, but they worked fairly well when I would go off road on occasion.

Julian/OP - glad you had a positive test ride! I definitely agree that the R12R is a much more versatile bike than the Speed Triple - yet still exciting enough. The only thing I'm finding I miss is the Triple's exhaust note!

Good luck on your decision.

Oh mate ...answer is simple...migrate to Oz. You're bound to have family here. The $Oz is about to reach parity with the $US. Then you have buy both GS for the outback fun and the R for tarmac. Actually this invite applies to anyone with an R. I'll have a word to the Minister for Immigration at the next bbq.

Well Guys,

I have just put down a deposit on a 2007 matt grey R1200R, with hot grips, ABS, traction control, and computer. And its got less than 2000 miles on the clock!!! :D

I am a very excited man now.

My wife is none too pleased, but poo happens......

Not only is this forum bad for my finances, as previously mentioned, but its also bad for my marriage. But hey, at least I'm smiling. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

OUTSTANDING !!

As for wifey: remember it is easier to grovel and ask forgiveness than to ask for permission  . I rather suspect more than a few of us showed up with a bike unannounced to the SO, and got practice in groveling. Quid Pro Quo now dictates that you absolutely must buy her some expensive little item to offset you recent sin. Something shiny with gold or silver is best, but a dozen roses also seems to disarm such awkward situations. These will instantly square things. =D>

Julian - congratulations! Time takes care of the marital discord - and you'll have a fantastic bike to enjoy while you're waiting!

My thirty pieces of silver were a nice and very expensive pair of leather boots and an equally expensive coat.
Not a bad price to pay I think!! She is pleased with those purchases, and I am pleased with mine
