Many congratulations. I, too, am looking at a Classic. Though the R1200R is a good bike, it's the paint scheme and the chrome exhaust that makes the Classic special for me. However, I was a little put off by thought of having tubed tyres (sorry for the English spelling - I'm English!). It appears that there are tubes in these rims although the tyres are marked as tubeless. The GS had a special design of rim that enabled the spoke fittings to be sealed and enabled tubeless operation but it seems that the size of rims used on the R1200R Classic made this option impossible. I did read somewhere (and am seeking confirmation) that BMW have considered punctures as being more of an issue with tubed tyres on the Classic and that some kind of sealant is put into the tubes to mitigate this. I will post again as soon as I have more info. Maybe others already know...

As soon as I get home today, I'm going to do the obligatory "new baby is home" photo shoot and I will post some pictures. I really am happy with the bike. And like I said, our 300 mile ride home gave us plenty of time to get to know one another. Just need to go windshield shopping now!! Fun!

No you don't, at least not yet. Give yourself a chance to get used to riding a naked bike before you decide you need a windshield. The only thing windshields are GOOD at is creating turbulence and buffeting.

Hmmm. Might just do that. Not looking to get any accessories right this moment. Gonna ride for a bit and see what she tells me she would like to have. What I really need more than any accessory is some riding buddies...

+1 on NOT putting a windshield on yours. I've had mine since 2009 and have zero problems, even on the highway.

how do you find the 1200 .
the standard screen is fine up to 90mph ,above 100 mph are not what these bikes are about ,
now i suppose if you are over 6 ft 3 inch tall a bigger screen might be a good idea .

Well I was able to get out today for a 100+ mile ride and I think I agree with the sentiments here. I really don't think the windshield is a must have. Got to the point where I didn't even really notice. But of course as we all know, the only way to be really sure is to do as much riding as often as possible...just to be sure.

I didn't notice the lack of a windshield in town, but an hour at 75+ was instructive.

"Cure" might be the wrong word. It's more like just treating the symptoms with various home-remedies. The disease never quite goes away but at least we can mitigate the most severe symptoms. It's much like any other virus, once you caught it - you've got it for life. We have to just learn to live with it.
