Don, after I saw the fresh oil on the seam, which dispelled what the dealer tech said about max filling to site-glass center, I topped up the motor oil from about 1/4 full in the sight glass to just below the MAX ring top, a practice I'd done before the service. Seem to recall pouring about 10-12 ounces, which jibes with the ~0.5 liter MIN-MAX range -- that figure is direct from the manual, BTW.deilenberger wrote:BTW - top to bottom of the oil sight glass is WAY less then 1/2 quart. My gut tells me they're separate. In hindsight, I probably should have waited until 12K or, even 18K, to switch to synthetic, but at the time I was commuting in a lot of stop-and-go/idling traffic, in a sweltering city in summer, and I figured excessive oil consumption would be the lesser of two evils in the long run.winkled wrote:… What I was getting at, was it possible that the switch to synthetic before fully breaking in the engine, (what I referred to as seals, I meant the rings, my bad) is causing the need to top off oil every couple months and the seeping is just a separate issue with a bad seal somewhere?
