Also make sure you connected the electrical connection on the fuel pump when you put the tank back on and the fuel hoses are connected and not pinched.

Eureka... pulling the fuse worked, it fired right up and I just got back from a quick ride. Is there anything else I should do after replacing the HES?
I can't thank you all enough for all of the great advice. Hopefully, someday I can chime in with something that will help someone.

I would reset the Throttle positing sensor. It is easy and takes one minute to do by turning on the ignition key (don't start) and fully open and close the throttle a couple of times, then turn off the ignition key.

Got it, I will do that when I get home. Everything sounds pretty good except when I let off the starter button there is a little bit of a rubbing sound near the flywheel. I wonder if I scuffed something up when I pinned it to break the nut on the pulley loose.
At any rate, it is such a relief to hear the old girl run again. I can't thank you all enough.
