While it has been years, I did read Animal Farm and the reference by Guest didn't get by me. But I must be less intelligent than Napolean, as I sure didn't get the comment about patronage as it pertains to me.
Meanwhile, I got a very complete, explicit and detailed PM from Doug regarding policies for posting, editing, deletion, etc. that was quite well thought out, obviously took time to write and provided the clarity I was seeking.
Seems we have ALL been deviating from the general "rules and regs" on proper posting places for quite a long time. The overwhelming majority of all of our posts belong in Off Topic, as they rarely pertain to the 1150R specifically. That includes topics related to motorcyle performance, riding skills, gear, new bikes that are being released, etc.
Thanks, Doug, for taking the time to write.

Hey, did somebody say something? Ahhh Grasshopper!.... I don't think I've heard/read a line like that since watching "Kung-Fu" with David Carradine many years ago.Everyone likes ol' Boxer, but a reasonable man cannot but wince when he reads "we are making progress."
And I'm gettin' pretty tired of people confusing me with that Boxermania guy. Why I oughta!

I will accept a honorable retraction for your callous remark

I'd like to add a question, actually more of a comment. The R1150R is no longer in production, while it is the bike most on the board have, it is no more. I imagine this is a time for Doug to make some major decisions regarding the Boards future.
It is a board which many, including myself, look forward to reading everyday - perhaps a couple of times a day. The bike brought us all here. However, it is the members, which keep the board together, not the bike.
I can imagine the amount of time it takes to keep this forum running is quite a lot, especially for a machine, which is no longer in production. What the end result of all this will be - I haven't a clue.

I got it too, as I assume all members of the board did. I agree with Bones' asseessment of the message.Bones wrote: Meanwhile, I got a very complete, explicit and detailed PM from Doug regarding policies for posting, editing, deletion, etc. that was quite well thought out, obviously took time to write and provided the clarity I was seeking.

Thanks, Doug - and to everyone - it's Doug's board, let's all play by his rules and move on. Happy holidays.

Don't tell the Airheads that they don't make 'em any more. I've got enough Airhead left in me that I plan to ride my R1150R for 10-15 years like I did my 1977 R100RS and my 1992 R100RT. If the shop is open, there will be at least one of us here. Regarding the current fuss, there are tens of thousands of boards on the net. Having one or two with focus and civility shouldn't be hard to appreciate. I appreciate the work that is done to make it available. Happy Thanksgiving. - Lee (one of the clueless happy pigs on the farm)FGanger wrote:... The R1150R is no longer in production, while it is the bike most on the board have, it is no more. I'm realizing that most of the angry posts about how I didnt reply or clarify are pretty unrealistic! I cant possibly read every post and reply to every person that wants a description, all doing this the same day or hour (!) that the request was made.
So the ones I saw I replied to, and I also sent out a mass email which everyone should have gotten (if they are registered). If you missed it, please go here to read the details:

Frank, I dont know whats going to happen here - it definitely has slowed down w.r.t. membership in the last 1-2 years (which is ok since the move to the new site we have a lot less expenses). I have thought about the decline a few times - part of the reason I made the new K1200R section. Perhaps it will just get quieter around here as time goes by, but as some of you 'ol timers know, hey, that may be a good thing!
I guess the reality is that although it will become an older bike, it doesnt mean that they will all just dissappear and as the bikes get older, a resource like this site will probably get only more important as new owners take hold, and repair answers are needed, etc..
Thanks again, enjoy the board!

You got attacked by a tarantula? I realize they're fearful looking but...

Although the tarantula is frightening in appearance, the chances of being bitten by it are rare and, because it has a rightful place in the outdoors, it should not be wantonly killed or persecuted. If its presence is not desired, it can be easily placed in a container and transported to some area where it can continue, unmolested, to live its useful life.
Cautions
Even if through carelessness a bite should occur, the venom when injected into man causes only slight swelling, with some numbness and itching which disappears in a short time. The chances of being bitten are so slight that one has little need to worry.
Tarantulas are harmless to humans and are often trained as pets, although they can inflict painful bites if provoked.

Bob,
Great to see you are still around. Boy am I jealous, I so want to be away from here right now and off on the road. We still have 6 1/2 months before we check out of Illinois and are off to Florida.
With all the stinking work we've had to do on my house, this past year has been my worst for bike riding. My overall average has been 20,000 (almost exactly) a year since I started riding in 1957. This year I only did about 10,000 miles. Next year I'll have to make it up by having a 30,000 mile year. Good lord! I just added it up, I'm at 960,000 miles. When I first started to ride the thought of putting on 1,000,000 miles seemed undoable. And now it's so close. You don't suppose 2,000,000 miles is possible, do you?
By the way, the offer still holds for you and your wife, we have a room with your name on it. To be honest, my wife reminded me that we have other names on the room as well. I'm embarrassed to say that you may have to share the room with some of the New York City Rockettes.

JToole,
It's not the glamorous position you might think. They almost never slow down and sleep, they are always running around the house asking you to tie this or that. The morning exercises and stretching is the part that really gets me. I have to step over their half naked bodies, laid out on the floor of the living room and the family room floors, doing their morning exercises. The late night using of the pool and hot tub is starting to get to be a pain as well. They almost never remember to take a shower first.
Oh wel, I suppose I'll keep having them, but one more of them coming home late, drunk, and trying to climb into my bed . . . well I just don't know what I may do.

surprised?
It's always been Doug's policy that this board should be a no-nonsense question and answer place... he only agreed to Pat's area grudgingly... and then made it a pay to play place.
Although many of you like to think of this board as a fun frolick, it is barely tolerated as such... Doug (in my opinion) sees this board as a much more sterile and encyclopedic place...
The rules are only reiterated, not new.
I've been quite surpised for quite a long time actually that the board has been allowed to be as free as it's been... ie, sexual talk and photos etc.
Now the law has been layed down 'again'....
Either watch your p's and q's and fall in line, or bail.
I bailed a long time ago and only visit to see if there's anything interesting going on... and there usually isn't.
The new members will keep coming, and it's no big deal to Doug if a bunch of us leave... as a matter of fact I imagine he welcomes the exit of many of us.
It's HIS site.... and he can make it reflect HIS image of what it ought to be... that's all he's saying, and what he wants.

Lance I tend to agree with you......but it's not all bad.
I for one still get quite a bit of enjoyment out of this site...even with it's repetitive questions that keep coming around with the new guys.
It makes me feel good when I can help someone out...provide some news or pics...or even make someone smile.
Even with Doug's rules...we live in a world of rules...I'm used to it and try not to let them get me down.
It's good to see you popping in every now and then...even if you're just stirring someone up..

But I think that forums like this evolve and there's only so many times "What oil is best" can be asked before it becomes a joke.
The good thing about this forum is that people CAN talk and chat and laugh, it's how people make friends and get to know each other (even if it's via a non-faceless media). To clamp down on that is, (imho) a mistake if there's no proper warnings first.
By all means clamp-down and get the place organised properly (hell I AGREE with that!!), but please let us know we've gone too far FIRST, then we can evolve the forum in the desired direction, continuing to grow, but in the correct direction: prune and nurture, rather than hack and cut.
