Don't worry too much about it Casey...the oil does sometimes get caught up in the oil coolers..it's best to go with the side stand for a few minutes before putting it on the center stand to check the oil level...even when there's no oil to be seen there's still a lot there (below the sight glass)..I think we've all had that little scare.I put it on the center stand last night. This morning I check the oil and there is no oil in the window. So I read some posts about the weird rituals for checking your oil level (which are inconsistent at best!).
I just took it out to warm it up. I put it on the side stand about 5 minutes ago. I think I'll go out now and put it on the center stand and see if the level is up. If not, I guess I'll add a little oil (but I'm a little nervous about it).

Try to get in the habit of checking the oil often. That way you will be able to determine how to hold your lip when you check it. As you may already know, she must be up to operating temperature before shut down in order to get a proper oil level reading. If the thermostat did not open, oil will stay on top and give a false reading. Sorry if this has been posted in this thread already.
