Can anyone tell me what is an Ed 80?

Edition 80. A limited edition white Rockster made to commemorate the 80th anniversary of BMW motorcycles. I believe only 2003 were made. Each has a plate that gives the production # of the bike. Look through this thread for pics of the bike. Read the thread and you'll get more info.

Now, for the statistic fetishists :roll: , let's do some math. Is it correct to expect that from these numbers (only 20 numbers known) the total number of Limited Editions produced is equal to 2003? Let's take into account that the lowest existing number is 1.

n(1) = 1
n(20) = 1907
n(max) = n(20) + 1/20*{[n(2)-n(1)]+[n(3)-n(2)]+...+[n(20)-n(19)]}
= 1907 + 1/20*95.3 (=average difference between two sequential numbers)

Well, spot on! My calculations reveal 2002 :shock: , actually. The science of statistics is pretty amazing, isn't it?

Thanks and double thanks.

Now for a real challenge in numbers and statistical analysis: can you determine how many were sent to each market? And which number sequences they were?

Europe
North America (sub Canada and USA)
Asia (sub Australia and all others)

And how many were held by BMW Motorrad for museums and display?

I know that just 200 came to the US.

(But that COULD be propaganda).

Sorry MikeCam, can't help you with that. If I remember correctly, 20 Rockster Limited Editions were made available for the Dutch market. Don't remember where I got that from. I think you've found yourself a nice hobby - besides riding of course 8) .

seven or eight ended in Norway. I know two other owners. One bike was for sale late last summer, but in general the Rocksters are not the hottest around here.
