I have the parabellum windshield. Came from an R1100RT. This is more like my airhead. More fun.
That was a 900 mile weekend.

Catchina,
What's better than an R1200R?
Two of them!
I've never gone anywhere with another R, looks like a good time.
Which one is yours?
yes indeed, mine has the BMW touring screen and GS cylinder guards. Here is another picture, on our way to Lake Placid. We also had an 800 GS traveling with us.

What a ride. Medina to Binghamton up route 10 to Lake Placid. Back home route 3 out of the adirondaks across tug hill.
In the twisties, I rode it like I stole it!
2700 miles in 3 weeks. The more I ride the better it runs.

And to keep the photos flowing, here's a couple photos from earlier this year with a different look to them.
Beatiful picture, LostRider!

In northern PA near Bradford. With my girlfriend for the weekend.

mi
320 miles only back roads, blue sign county roads. Or roads with no stripes until they turned to dirt. One we kept going.

Advanced cornering clinic at Marine Corps Base Quantico from a few weeks ago. They set up a track on a huge drill pad with tons of corners and only a couple of short straights. They're having another one this Thursday - can't wait!

Rrider great shots. I ride by locations like that and know their is a great picture there but lack the talent to compose the picture. Lost Rider and a few other also get great shots. Do you guys just 'see' these shots or did you take some classes in photography.

The fact that you can realize a potential scene where there's a nice photo waiting to be captured is a big part of it. Recognizing good lighting scenes like Rrider's photos is also a major factor in making good photos.
I can't comment on anyone else's methods, for me I feel my photography improved greatly when I started shooting with lenses/cameras with no zoom.
It very easy to pull a camera out of your tank bag that's fully automatic, zoom it and snap away without any thought going into what you're trying to capture.
For me and my A.D.D. using prime lenses slowed me down and helped me think about what I'm trying to accomplish with this photo. Zoom with your feet.
90% of the photos I've taken in the recent years are shot with a focal range of 35mm, which is just slightly wider than "normal", which is 50mm.
Having shot tens of thousands of photos with one focal range I learned how to recognize scenes better because I now see in 35mm, if that makes any sense. Zoom with your feet.
Since you already have it in you to recognize scenes, maybe a little reading on the basic principles of photography composition will help you.
Here's a couple hits from googling "basic rules of photography composition"

Harry,
Many moons ago I studied photography in college and since then I do tend to see shots in my head. Of course turning them into reality is another thing altogether. But I agree with Lost Rider. Lighting is very important and can make or break the photo. Take the time to wait for it to fall just right on your subject. Patience is everything! Early morning and late afternoons are good times to shoot. Also, it helps to have good lenses and a camera that allows you to make exposure decisions, since you know the subject better than it does.
That's my 2 cents.

A great way to get good at taking pictures is to take pictures. If I'm riding down the road and see something that makes me exclaim, then I stop and shoot it. If you don't stop, you'll never get the picture. So stop and give it a try. After some practice you'll see when and why your pictures come out good. But the main thing is to take a lot of pictures.

Harry, based on this
gem from your Flickr stream, I'd say you've got photo composition down. But avoid cropping Smurf limbs in your frame.
A photo editor told me I could make almost any picture more interesting by shooting up or down, e.g. avoiding eye-level. And he said to shoot like a cinematographer: Start wide and then get real close.
Rrider, great capture in that tree shot. Looks like The Shire.

Thanks Bill. I had to google The Shire and was amazed at the images there. Guess I'd better finally watch the Lord of the Rings!

Well, she's back from getting probed and prodded at Bazzaz Performance Tuners. We went for a pleasant, albeit short ride over to Santa Barbara and stopped to smell the ocean.
It's nice to have Roadie the Roadster back!

Lost Rider, those previous 2 "arty" photos look great. You should make a poster of just your bike!

Rrider - I'll trade you some ocean for some beautiful fall colors.
As for the artsy photos, thank you, that's the Illustration effect from my new camera, the Sony RX 100.
I'm very happy with it overall, it's tiny, has a huge sensor (for it's size), very fast Ziess f/1.8 lens, excellent high ISO performance and most importantly gives me direct easy access control over all needed functions for manual shooting. Should be a great tool to capture motorbikes with various backgrounds.
It's been a while since I had a camera with anything but very basic functions like on my Leica, I think for moto-photography I can put some of these "features" to good use, even if I don't have to zoom with my feet as much now. While I do prefer prime lenses, I did miss out on some shots with my self imposed limitations like I talked about previously.

Love this one. Another poster for sure. I looked up your camera. Wow - 20 mp. Can't wait to see what you come up with in the upcoming months. I've got a 25mm for the Panasonic G3 that isn't getting much use. Guess I need to start zooming more with my feet!

The Sony RX100 is a simply brillliant camera. Had mine about a monthnand love it!
Does it have a downside? Yes, the price!

Great shot Lost Rider! I love Sony Cameras, I have a smaller one for quick shots but where I still can do some manual manipulation and then from work (so sadly I can't always take it with me) a Canon EOS D 5 Mark II. Can't wait to get my r12 (checking a black one out tomorrow! wish they still had pinstripes...) and take it to pretty places and try and get pretty pictures

(usually I chase critters with my camera, but an r12 is a type of critter too I guess...)
Rrider and Lost Rider: Fall colors and ocean can be combined.. a ride along the New England coastlines maybe?
Rrider: loved your pictures!! and yes it is time to read or watch Lord of the Rings... now if they would have had r12s in the Shire, that is exactly what it would look like parked behind a hobbit home.. although they realllly would have to get the suspension and seat lowered (kind of like me...)

Thanks atractaspis. I like the New England coastline in the fall idea. Someday maybe....
VanDan, yours and Lost Rider's ocean shots cause me angst. Only way to fix this problem is to steer the R there next summer.
