Hi Beemer1150. The usual custom in the Philippines is to extend your left hand up much like taking an oath. Some go ahead and wave. I'm curious about the French greeting. Is this what they call the "low five?" I've never seen anyone doing that. Wouldn't it look like you are pointing at a road hazard? Extending the left leg may also be misinterpreted as a warning.

I wave at everybody, even little girls on scooters.
As long as your on two wheels, you are OK with me. I sometimes get annoyed with those that don't wave back if I know that they saw me and made a choice to not return the gesture. Seems that there is a mixture of different riders on different styles/brands that wil not wave back. Probably a higher percentage of cruiser riders though. I just stand up on the pegs and fart in their general direction.

C'mon DJ, its fun to wave to scooter riders just to confuse em.
In LA pretty much everyone waves back if you give em the wave, with the exception of the true HD gangsters, & even they wave from time to time.
Now whats a bit gay (not that there is anything wrong with that) is if some guy in a truck with a HD sticker on it waves. Can't give the wave if your not on the bike

That must be a mexican thing DJ (not that anything wrong being gay)- i always wave to riders (except harleys - dont like waving to farmers) and most people wave back!

I'll wave to anyone on two wheels with an engine. At least they're not the enemy in steel cages trying to kill us!
Scooter "riders" don't wave back (I don't think they know they're supposed to.), but most motorcycle riders do. I've found that the middle-aged types on older Japanese bikes are the least likely to return my wave.
I usually initiate the wave, but sometimes the other rider does.

And therein lies the irony. That head-on encounter coming around the next blind curve in the twisties could very well be an overzealous squid getting his jollies on two wheels (or one).

Usually when traveling waving and or flashing does happen, but when urban riding, there are just too many motocycles and too much trafic to be social ! In Athens traffic all you can think about is how to stay away from harms way :-)

My wife on her 400cc Scooter is the exception. I usually wave, unless its a Biker and they have obniouxly loud pipes, in which case I ignore them.
