Really depends also on the amount of money you have.. a lot of money can delay this by a considerable amount of time..
A fleet of BMW's both 2 and 4 wheel will negate the "age" effect instantly: size does matter !

Actually - I have that.. the R12R is only to round out the numbers..

Somehow I seem to have umm.. well, a number of BMWs kicking around.
Doesn't work. Tried flashing keyrings in bars - not much response.. I think that's wishful thinking. Damnit..
I think around here one needs a Ferrari to actually get female attention. And even then - it's not a sure thing.

OK, I have 1,000 miles on my r1200r. Bike is, in my opinion, the best production motorcycle ever built. More power on all levels than anyone on the street, freeway, backroad, culdesac, sidewalk and probably most dirt roads, will ever need. Perfect balace and brakes and seating position.
Substance over image, I always say. The bike looks good to me though.
Old men? Sounds like sour grapes to me. Most journalists are usually looking for words to print so they
end up picking the fly poop out of the pepper regarding motorcycle nuances.
When I was younger we rode Hondas and Kawasakis because they were cheap enough to buy as toys.
As for Hardley Movinson riders, I know not what they are thinking regarding motorcycling. I cannot relate.
It has been my experience that motorcycles are not chic magnets. When I am with my motorcycle I get more attention from other guys and their sons (usually ages 3 and up0.
I have better luck with female attention when I walk our miniature Boston Terrier. I do seriously recommend a small Boston Terrier to all you single gentlemen out there.
Get the bike because it is freakin fun. The chick magnet thing may disappoint.

I don't want to alarm you* old guys, but my Piaggio 125cc scooter gets more attention from women than does my R1200R.

Come to think of it, my scooter does even better than my F650CS which did
way better that the R12R

(CS is now an offical chick bike - I've given it to my big sister)
I think it's because women actually want to ride the scooter themselves... or maybe it's because I only ride the scooter short city distances around the hip cafe strips of Sydney ... or maybe scooters are just cool ... or maybe a guy on a small scooter isn't compensating (sez my nieces and my girlfriend's 20 year old daughter) ... or maybe it's simply less intimidating - even though my R12R has had no lettering to indicate it's capacity since it was 5 minutes from the showroom .. (black on Crystal Grey was an insult to my eye, and I've never liked painted lettering).
I think the solution is to get a small dog
and a scooter, and see how ya go!
* I'm only 48, even if my goatee is .. um .. paler (OK, it's white). I do enjoy being able to ride away from crotchrockets because my supple suspension (Wilbers) keeps the R12R on the road and upright instead of bouncing to billy-o on rough Aussie roads the way race replicas do ...

OK,
Chick magnet-wise, I think you are on to something with the scooter thing. I think it is the Italian connection. I've never met a woman yet who, upon the mention of the word "Italy" didn't say "Ooooh Italy"!
I can't quite embrace the scooter thing, although I like the little blue honda in the picture and the pilot! I want one of each but I only have a two car garage and I'm pretty sure my wife doesn't want me to have either item.
Going out to blast up and down the San Diego county coast hwy.

Oh, I almost forgot. I am also very biased regarding small dogs. Its like my aversion to scooters. I'm not claiming my many bias to be rational. Just very black and white. If it is going to be a small dog, for me, it has to be a Boston Terrier. Mine looks like the one in the pic.

Chick magnets - nothing (really nothing) beats a Beagle pup:
And for some reason women (talking ones that ride) always take a long look at my /5. Maybe because it looks small and nonthreatening. Actually it's heaver than the R1200R.
As far as women in general, I always figured you only need one good one and luckily I found one forty plus years ago. Yes I've taken a quick look, but no sense risking screwing up a good thing.

Ok Harry,
I agree with you. One bike, One Woman, One God, One Fin, One dog, and I have to admit, that beagle is pretty magnetic.
Great black retro beemer bike!
Sometimes I think I want to get a 1200 sq. ft house with a 3,000 sq ft. garage.
Thursday Post ride weather forecast;
windy, few cars, fun.

hmm...not a chick magnet? Too bad.
I find the bike a great guy magnet. First they notice the bike. Then they notice the blue and white armor. Then they notice the long blond hair. Great to watch their eyes get big and the smiles on their faces as they realize it is a CHICK riding the bike!!
PS. It
IS a chick magnet. More and more of us are riding them. LOL

OK,
Since I, like Harry, am really not 'in the market' so to speak, the chick magnet thing is more of an ironic comedy for me.
I rode down the coast highway to Pacific Beach yesterday. I saw one female rider, on the back of a bike. I am glad more ladies are getting into the sport. Anyway, I'm in PB drinking a coke, and who friendlies up to me? A 40 year old guy drinking canned Heineken, riding a 3 wheel bicycle. Nice enough guy...but if I was trolling the single life, this would not be considered a success.
I still think it is mostly the moto journal press who tries to sell the BMW R1200R old guy thing. Usually people of a variety of ages are very complimentary about my bike.
By the way, do all R1200R riders kiss their bike in that same spot on the tank? Up to now, I thought it was just me.

Just because you are "Not in the market" doesn't mean you don't miss your days of "visibility" to women.
Lori "Take Me Away" was unable to see me at the Ga. Mtn. Rally. It was like a movie where the person doesn't realize they are a ghost.

I am happy to report that in my Riders Edge classes, there are a lot of women lately. I have done a number of ladies-only classes which is great. They, unlike a lot of guys, actually listen to what we suggest, and absolutely have a blast when things work as advertised
Most of them end up riding really nice sportbikes too

I am happy to report that last Friday I actually saw a woman riding her own motorcycle by herself, meaning no other motorcyclists riding on the back or on another bike near her or accompanying her. I wanted to flip a U to congratulate her. Now that is a monumental step forward for womankind.
Is Riders Edge a Harley thing only? I am considering Reg Pridemore's class.
thanks,

I ride by myself all the time...both short and long distance...not all women riders need to have an escort...lol
I also teach the motorcycle safety course. We usually have a fairly decent number of women who take the course every week. The demographic is changing...

Hi Celeste,
Was that you I saw? Pink Poshmina, dark red lipstick, Jackie O sunglasses, Harley Davidson? Just kidding. I am glad more women are getting into the sport.
When I was a kid we all rode dirt bikes in the hills behind San Clemente CA. There was exactly one girl who rode
bikes that we knew of. She was actually much more skilled on a bike than any of the guys.
Are you a 'Riders Edge' person?

Not Rider's Edge...the Canadian Version of the MSF. It is called Gearing Up and it is held at local colleges and run by the Canadian Safety Council.
PS I would not get caught dead in pink...lol
