Good pics of the motor. Naming the front on photo 0259...nice touch. I'll use that one for my desktop for awhile, 'tanks.
It's a joy to see competence at work. Actually a rare thing in today's "uhh, whatever, dude" world.

Thanks for the comments.
That's brand new paint DJ. It's a high metallic acrylic urethane with hardener. I had to completely disassemble the engine to repaint it like that. Look on page 2 of this thread...you will see the engine cases right after I painted them.

Today I fabricated and fit the rear splash panel:

The frame is ready for disassembly, final welding, grinding and paint:

Randy.....that will be a great looking bike.....kudos

I see that you used the short torque arm (366 mm) on the rear to straighten the u-joint, looks neat.

Whose rear shock? Works?

I also see the balancing tube on the carbs does it work well?

Is that a PM wheel out back?

Last question, where is the battery, not under the tank I hope....

That full frontal view (of the engine that is  ) knocked my socks off!

Man you do good work!

Randy,

I'm thinking about doing some top end work on my bike this winter, cams and 12:1 pistons. I'd like to use "drop in" cams nothing to radical, and i'm concerned that the starter will have trouble turning over the higher compression pistons. Any thoughts or suggestions on types, brands, makes, styles or any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys. The rear shock comes from a 2003 Yamaha R1. The guys at Hyperpro helped me set it up with a heavier spring from a late model Triumph and I put a Racetech adjuster on it. The torque arm is the stock one from the original 96 R1100RS. I'm not sure if it will stay...I have seen some cool aftermarket arms but, the length is right on. The wheel is "Chrome Horse" brand. Don't know why they call them that since they aren't chrome :?
The balancing tube should smooth out the intake pulse but, I haven't started it yet. Between the intake tube, the carbs on this motor, the Dyna ignition from a GSXR 750 and the 1150 pistons and cylinders...it should run great :P ...I hope.
Lots of ideas still yet to be proven on this project but, I'm confident!

Here is a pic of the battery box location:

You shouldn't have any problem with the 12 to 1. These starters are powerful and the batterys in the BMW's are large capacity. The stock RT already runs 11.5 to 1 with no problems. That is what I'm using in this new project. You will just have to get used to running premium gas if you're not already using it. You can call Chris at san Jose BMW with any questions about this subject. He is the Guru when it comes to oil head performance IMHO and he is happy to help on projects like that. SJBMW can set you up with all you need for that conversion. I'm not sure what size valves you have but, you may also want to go to the larger intake valves and you might as well consider remapping your fuel injection program.

That thing is going to be wonderfull.
What do you estimate the build cost would be ?

Just parts would be probably around 15K. 2 years worth of my time?? I haven't figured that out yet :P

Couldn't decide if paint or polish would look good on the stainless splash panel so, I polished it...what do you think?

Looks great polished, won't chip and will match the chromed engine parts,IMO.

The polish looks great. Personally, I would stick with that, but your imagination has proven extremely successful on this project so far. Do what you think is best.

I am salivating for the final pictures!

Thanks guys...polished it is. :D
