I wonder if you could JB weld (or something similar) some brackets or studs in there? There's plenty of bolts around there- you may have to fashion up some spacers and replace the stock bolts with longer ones. Do you have a picture of the inside of the fairing? I'm interested in seeing how your project turns out.

Patrick, That's helpful. My fairing is at the body shop being painted. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get it back. Mine isn't fiberglass, it may be ABS but I'll ask the body shop guy when I pick it up. I have some plastic repair epoxy that is supposed to adhere to a variety of plastics, including ABS, so my first thought is to put an 8mm or 10 mm bolt through a 2" x 2" x 1/8" aluminum plate and epoxy the plate to the back of the fairing. My fairing only comes down to the middle of the headlight so I only need to move the turn signals down an inch and a half or so.

Hey man, looks a lot like mine We even have the exact same mirrors as I switched out the original Risomas I had to the ones you have! Good job on the hole drilling also, that was nerve racking as when you spend $800 or thereabouts you don't want to screw it up! Now just switch over your levers to a set of Pazzos and your all set Like your cases also, they look like they could withstand a bomb blast!

Thanks Dave! I need to get the fancy GPS thingy too, but just can't bring myself to do it. Do you feel the upgraded levers were worth the cost? I'm really trying hard not to do any strictly cosmetic upgrades. Those darn mirrors were expensive, but definitely worth it. And yep, the bags definitely give the bike a little "Mad Max" flavor. No leather pants here though.

I really like the levers as they have more adjustment and you can get shorter levers also. Not only are they IMHO functionally better but look better also. You are right, they (The cases) do have a mad max look to them, but I think they look good.

How about a leather vest?

The upgrade in levers was worth every penny for me, much more conformable and ergonomically correct, though I went with the Vario levers.



I like the bags, who makes them?
Do you have any photo's of the rear end, or the rack without the bags?

I really wish I could mount my small 8" Jesse Safari bags from my GS on the R... how sweet would that be to have 1 set of bags for both...

My BMW luggage for the R has warned me clearly and for the last time while in Newfoundland that I cannot continue to ride the bike off road with them on, they're pretty beat up and have some cracks on the mounting points.

You photo has me wondering though...

You are quite right about those bags Patrick. Do you wear a paper bag over your helmet? i would be happy to trade you a proper set of BMW bags for those old eyesores.

They show the quick release mount, but not the standard.

Search Youtube, Chitown. There's a couple of videos of installations - not on R12R's, but it will give you a good idea.

The whole mounting bracket comes off with three or four 1/4-turn fasteners to clean up the bike when you're not using them. It's actually really slick, takes about 20 seconds a side.

Yep, that is a slick system. The Triumph Tiger I almost bought had them on it. If hard cases were to make it to my RR, that would be the system I'd go with, with either the Trax boxes or the new Givi's that go with that mounting system.

I do wear a black leather jacket and boots, but the silver flip-up helmet probably throws the whole look off!

The mounts are adaptable to a wide range of bags- I'm sure you can arrange for the Jesse's to mount up. The bike is very clean with the mounts off. I never seem to get there as I'm always hauling something around though. Of course, today I'm locked into the SUV- I'll get some pics of the mounting this afternoon for you. Here's what I found that may help out in the meantime:



Thanks for the input on the levers too. I'd like to get the Rizomas to match the mirrors, but I digress back to the cosmetic issue... The Varios are less expensive and look to be more functional.

Very nice framework, fit perfectly

Install took a couple hours, instructions were maily pictures to decipher. Importer took calls and was a big help.
I should have installes the winshield before mounting fairing to the bike. Ooops.
Very quiet so far, I took a quick spin and at 55-65 my head was in the still air and the fairing kept the blast off my body. I'm 5'9 and the plexishields were buffeting me to death. We'll see how this one works.

The aluminum pieces on the rack came with the TRAX adapter kit, so there's three components- the rack, the adapter kit, the bags (sold separately, of course). Actually four components if you include buying the matching lock set as well. The cases are made of aluminum and extremely light. The rack is steel and definitely heavier than the cases. The rack will require removal of the OEM bag mount. You could probably make it work with the OEM rack by modifying the spacers and maybe using a different length bolt.
