Apparently he'd never noticed a boxer layout before. Of course he saw the 150mph speedometer and assumed it would hit 150. Another engineer, knowing I'd come a couple of hundred miles that morning said, "But it's so small...".
They might be the same engineers who told New Jersey Transportation officals that motorcyclists would DIE if they rode their bikes on the Garden State Parkway or the Atlantic City Expressway. (1960's)

I was stopped at a red light a few weeks ago and there were these three teenage boys holding a sign out to motorists. They were trying to solicit donations for their football team.
They looked at my bike and started jumping around saying "DAAAMMMN, man! That's a BMW motorcycle!! Word!
Forshizzle. It was.
Respect.

Just yesterday at a 4 lane intersection stopped at a light, the guy in the car next to me say's " is that bike comfortable". I said "of course, it's a BMW".
Then looking across the opposite lane there sat the usual looking dirt bag on his hardtail with ape hangers. I turned to the guy and said, "what about him?", do you think he's comfortable and which bike would you rather ride"?

Last weekend a 'groovy-dude' approached me and said;
"So BMW makes a little bike too"

My Father In Law rides a RT and recently he was having a conversation with one of his friends that is a serous Harley guy.
HG: "BMW's are just glorified mopeds."
FIL: "Really? So do you want to race?"
HG: "Sure. No problem." (Smug look of confidence on his face)
FIL: "To Alaska and Back?"
HG: NO COMMENT.

All sorts of scumbag British Bike Mag Journos (who think that they ride better than Rossi) think that BMW sucks. Of course there are exceptions and some other British Bike Mag Journos like (and ride) BMW.
Suckers (the crotch rocket types). Don't knock it until you have tried a BMW (tried - I mean for 1 month, not 20 minutes).
Typical UK rider (exceptions apply) - white collar, professional, likes the build quality, can afford the servicing, likes proper motorcycle dealerships and not cowboys, does not think that very fast bike = big d**k.
Bikes here (UK) are part of the scenery, too many of them - hardly anyone notices your bike (other bikers of course - do).
