Squealing noise from engine

I ride a 1996 R1100R. Today I was returning home on the interstate averaging a speed between 75 and 80 mph. Soon after exiting and coming to a stop at the light I noticed a squealing noise coming from (I think) the front of the engine. After about 30 seconds it stopped. The motor was running normal. Not missing at all. I eased it home and it started squealing on and off again. Any ideas as to what could it be? Many thanks to all who can respond.
Gordon... Duuude!!

Sounds like you might need a new timing belt..and while you're at it maybe upgrade the belt tensioner..

I would suspect the alternator belt and or pulleys. Especially since there is no timing belt.

We knew what you meant DJ.
That alternator belt is surely the culprit here. It only takes a few mins. to change it out.

Alternator????????
And to think for the last 4 years I thought that belt ran the water pump!
That explains why I could never find the radiator cap.
