I'm in the market for a tank bag for my R any suggestions Not to big just want something to carry a few items on sort jonts instead of my hard bags

Coretech at helmethouse.com has a great selection of bags. I use a smaller bag that I keep just the essentials. Also has a map pocket.

I've got the Wolfman Explorer Lite and it works pretty well.

Check out the Marsee Corona. Doesn't touch the tank at all.

Not sure if you can get them in the US, but I've got an Italian FAMSA bag on my Rockster. Bag zips off, and the base is cut to fit the Rockster / R1150R. Had it on my previous R1100S, and just got a new base when I swapped bikes.

Just picked up the Joe Rocket Manta XL tank bag to replace my cortech:

It's got the strongest set of magnets I've seen so far. Two zippered pockets on the top, one pouch for the raincover on the bottom, and a tank protector dangling from the back. Everything folds up nice when off the bike.

This tank bag system has been the greatest. If I were to do anything different it would be getting the XL bag instead of the size I have. Although, with all the electricals in the bag, I still have room for my phone, money, gum, earplugs, and corn nuts. What more is needed for a day trip?

I have tried many tank bags, but the Big Mak does everything I want. Most of the time I only have the real small top case on, when traveling I put the normal bag on, it has the added advantage of providing clean air, somehow it works like the tank wings might be the hard plate at the mounting point. Looks are not the greatest but FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION isn't that why we ride Beaksters?

One of the folks I ride with gave me her Marsee tank bag, so I opted out of the Big Mak setup. However, I'll likely upgrade to your setup now that you've had some time test your system

What else do you need in a tank bag, aside from all of the autocom/radio stuff? How about some Cliff Bars? It only takes four Cliff Bars to go from Boise, Idaho to Las Vegas, NV

BTW -- I found that adding a tank bag cuts out some of the buffeting experienced at cruising speeds.

I read on a thread on Advrider.com where one guy recommended ditching the tankbag completely for traveling. I was amazed! I find the tankbag the single most useful piece of luggage you can use and seldom does my bike leave the driveway without it!

I used to use a Marsee teardrop and it was pretty good but now have a Held that I like very much. Lots of cool pockets and features and, unlike the Marsee, there is a rain cover that is functional and fits!

If I ever repaint my tank with a custom paint job, I may look into one of the Big Maks, though.
