Fuel Consumption and Leakage.

My 2004 Tiger runs great but starting to use a lot of fuel. I thought there was a leak but can't find one. Filled up and rode 150 Miles and needed 4 Gallons? When I took the cover off of it after a week of sitting "I smelled fuel", still no leak located.
Is there a fuel shutoff I don't know about? Just filled up this morning and rode around 170 miles and when I returned topped it off and used 3.76 Gallons. That seems close to correct but a little thirsty. Maybe my heavy hand on the road...
Any suggestions welcomed.

Thats over 45 miles to the gallon on the second tank. I would say that you are doing VERY well. Seems like that is certainly at least the very high side of average.
Rarely do I get higher than 40, ususally 37 or 38, so just what you got with the first tank that you speak of.
One time it was almost as low as 25. That was a fun tank.
That explains it.

My first tank was cruising and the second was pretty wide open. Thanks! At least when I filled it up it was $3.00 and not $70.00.

My TDM used to average that on a daily motorway commute until the emulsion tubes were replaced.

I do 90% of my Rockster riding in the city and I get about 25mpg. If I do a longer tour the mpg creeps up to about 40... Be happy you're getting such good mileage!

I would be suspicious of those awful 'Quick Disconects'..they are known to leak..even though they look connected.

Hi all,
just discovered a fuel leakage on my Rockster. There's a leak on the right side, where the fuel hose is connected to a smaller hose that enters the engine. The leakage varies from just a few drops to quite a lot.
Called my local dealer who told me that this was a known problem on the Rockster, and therefore it's registered as a "campaign" - meaning that BMW dealers fix it at no cost (my bike's still under warranty so that doesn't really matter to me).

Thanks for the info guys.
I think I have a similar problem with my Rock so at least I now know where to start looking. I've checked and rechecked the TB's as well as the "quick connects" (as DJ suggested), but couldnt find anything. The fuel economy wasnt really affected, but there is a smell of gas at times - usually when I'm stopped at a traffic light. Anyway, I'll check again for a fuel line leak. Any other thought swould be appreciated. Thanks again.
