Has anyone tried the various footpeg lowering kits available for the 1150r? Which one have you purcahsed and are you happy with the results?

When I first got my R1150R my knees used to hurt (I'm 6'4")

I wanted a peg lowering kit bad..real bad..and the high price even had me looking at making my own.

But I got used to it and now I can ride all day without a problem..Riding with my toes on the pegs seems to help a little.

I've heard of incidents where guys with peg lowering kits have dug a peg mid corner and caused them to crash..that will send you running for the band-aids..

How long have you had your bike...I would suggest trying to get used to it stock..and only get them as a last resort.

They also cause other problems..like changing the position of the gear lever..and making it hard to use the center stand.

It's only my oppinion..There's others here that use them..and love them.

I've had my bike over 5 years and have 26,000 miles. I just completed my second 1000 mile Iron Butt ride this weekend. I don't have problems with the peg position on normal backroad days, just on the occasional long distance trips. Over the last week I rode close to 3000 miles during a trip to, and around the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. I'ts during those times when my knees and legs feel cramped. I just thought I'd look into the lower pegs; it's feedback like yours that I'm looking for. Thanks.

That's cool..I just thought you may be new to the bike...You could also try the tall seat..I forgot that I got that..and I think that helped me heaps.

I've used the MV Verholen peg lowering kit for 4 years and over 40,000 miles now, and I wouldn't have kept the bike very long without the lowered pegs. The first ride home from the dealer when I bought the bike new (118 miles) convinced me - my legs were seriously cramped.

As to dragging the pegs, touching down, or levering the bike off the back wheel: I may not be the most aggressive rider, but there's no way anyone (sane) would consider me slow, and yet I've only touched my pegs ONCE in those four years, and that was in some twisty mountain roads while I was chasing some seriously fast guys on Japanese crotch rockets. YMMV and you may have a different riding style, but I don't worry about touching. If you have doubts about levering the bike off the back wheel by touching down, I respectfully submit that you are going way too fast for the street.

After having attached your peg lowering kit, did you find it necessary to adjust the shift lever or your shifting technique?

Bob's BMW sells and extended shift lever (temp out of stock). Here's the quote from the website:

"Extended shift levers, where indicated for specific models, are not required but will facilitate shifting by maintaining the same relative position of shifter to footpeg as stock. In other words, if you don’t install the extended shifter you will have to modify your shifting technique some what to adapt to a new position."

I'm wondering if the adjustment is that noticeable...

I put the peg lowering kit from the dealer first thing when I bought my R. Yes, I drag a peg once in a while but it's no thing. (actually perks you up a bit.) Also, you will develop your own way of putting it on the center stand. Since I use the bar on the side I just pull up the left peg with my thumb, jam down the stand with my foot and hoist away.

I'm tall 6'4" and have a Rick Mayer saddle that adds a little as well. I have the Ironbutt sticker on the rear of the bike to attest to the comfort level.

The MV Verholen kit came with one extender to use on the shift lever.

Part of the kit was a longer shift linkage bolt, which effectively lowered the shift lever. (Also supplied was a different bolt for the rear brake pedal, which had the effect of lowering that pedal as well).
