Has anyone installed any sort of headlight protection on their bike? While I was out this weekend I noticed several small cracks in the lens of my headlight. I suppose where rocks have hit.

Worth money.

I have used a Cee Bailey protector since 2003 and am happy with it. It has prevented cracking that you describe. It came off some place in WI while I was at the BMW MOA rally. When I replace it I will add a tether to it.

On the BMW MOA board flash412 described how he makes his own, if you are interested.

Cee-Bailey - as of yet - doesn't have one available for the R1200R Roadster. I spoke with the president of the company a number of weeks ago, and he was going to try to get to a dealer to make a mold of the headlight.

As far as Flash making them - I suspect the Roadster would be somewhat of a challenge even for him - it's not a simple shape. There is a complex shape to the headlight, with multiple curves in it - and a fold in the middle of the curves that defeated me trying to put "stoneguard" plastic over it.

I have replaced one headlight so far - cost is about $125.

It's the lens and reflector - they're one piece. Plastic..

That's where all the weight savings are made. The R1150R headlight weighed about 20 pounds.

I have a one inch crack in my headlamp lens too, think mabe that they are alittlle too fragile???????who else has cracked one??

The duct tape on the lens of mine seemed like a good idea at first.........

Where are y'all ridin'? No cracks here. Never had one that I can recall.

$47AUD plus postage - now the Aussie dollar is less of a joke ($0.89USD) that's probably not price competitive to buy from the US.

The curve is indeed a little complex - I was sceptical about the price, but I can see it's a 3-D mould. Way cheaper than a cracked healight.

Can you post a pic. I'm interested but I have limited clearance (like none) between the headlight and the Parabellum Fairing. Does it mount on the front of the lens or do you have to get to the sides (which I can't do).

It just sticks on the headlight lens with 3 round spots of 3M dual lock velcro like stuff. Sticks like a crazy monkey. You get to it from the front. I'll send a picture when I can.

Looks like it will work but the $25.10 postage brings it to $72.10 at my doorstep. May have to wait for the off season (whenever that is), I'm using all my money for gas.

Parrabellum or one of the other big US makers (not Cee-Bailey - they missed this boat..) now has one available in the US. Saw it the other night when browsing some website or perhaps reading the ON..

Do some poking around - the Aussy one is nice (I have one) - but they're not rocket science, so I think the US made one would be equally as nice (but perhaps not with the two little lines across it - a throwback to the R100RS..)

I ordered a 12" x 12" sheet of 3M ScotchCal 30mil film from XPel: http://www.xpel.com/ for $18 or so. I found a sauce pan in my kitchen that is the same size as the headlight (you can...of course...use a compass to make the circle). I traced the circle onto the ScotchCal, cut and applied. It went rather smoothly. You will, of course, need to follow the instructions supplied by XPel. I would also highly recommend using a heat gun/hot hair drier to get the material flexy enough to bend around the headlight contours. Once it was on and the air bubbles were squeegee'd out...ya can't even see it. Will it protect as well as a plastic cover from AeroFlow, Cee Baily's or others...probably not. I, however, do not really like the look of the 3M ScotchLock Buttons used to affix the plastic covers. The 30mil ScotchCal is supposed to protect quite well.

I sure could use a guard since I'm on headlamp lens number 3...
