Does anyone have any experience with the Akrapovic exhaust for the R1150R? Looking for a good looking exhaust with performance and a nice sound.

I'll jump in also. I'm considering a cat eliminator pipe for my '04 R1150R, and plan to use the stock can. I don't care about the sound, but I'm considering dumping the cat converter. Any suggestions on that? Akrapovic? Sebring?

I can't help with Akrapovic, as mine is Remus, but you shouldn't use the stock end-can without the cat - there are several posts on this, notably from Riceburner who experienced the known issue with this.

Something to do with heat build-up, as the can isn't free flowing enough to cope ...

i would go with staintune. i have a staintune collector and can... the finish and workmanship is amazing. the sound is great too. muffler never needs repacking. and best of all, it looks like it came stock like that.

now... if only staintune made header pipes for the 1150r!

I fitted the Sebring Y-pipe because I didn't like the heat thrown off by the 18 lb oven next to my ankle. I kept the stock can.
Have not really had any problems, other than an initial increase in backfires which was fixed by better sealing the connection between the pipe and muffler. The stock clamp is a bit too large to provide an effective connection - I used a piece of sheet aluminum as a shim to increase the circumference of the pipe but the better way is to simply get a slightly smaller clamp.

A few riders have reported problems with melting or distortion of the left-side system case when using a Y-pipe with the stock can. This has not been an issue with my setup though.

I have a Remus CF can and their Y pipe and it looks and sounds great. Less weight, no heat problems with the left case and there is an increase in performance. Fit and finish are top notch also.

I had a Remus carbon can and y pipe on my Rockster, and couldn't fault the set up. I now have a carbon Akrapovic on my K12R, and I think the quality/look/sound/performance is even better than the Remus was.

Let's take a walk on the wild side and review what you get for your money.......

All the cat eliminators and the cans that go with it will give you the equivalent of 3 hp on a stock bike, plus the removal of 25 pounds which when computed based on weight will add another 3 hp, because the motor is propelling less mass.

So if you divide the hp by the cost of the system you will get the cost per hp. Anything above $100 per hp is expensive.........

On the other hand you can remove the can....performing a Canerectomy a la DJ (the first one that I recall did it) and replace it with a $4 chrome tailpipe of your liking. You end removing about 10 pounds and get to see the rear wheel in it's full splendor along with having a little more rumble out of your exhaust......what more can you ask fo $4.

It may be cheap, and save weight, but it looks like just what it is, a $4 auto parts store exhaust tip. It may or may not add power, and COULD decrease power. The high $$ units are well designed and tested by the builders to do what they advertise. Some advertise a power increase, some don't. My Remus system made my bike run better according to the butt dyno and that's what matters to me, also, I like the sound and look. That being said, the guys who removed their cans and went with the stubby tip, are happy with their mods also.
