I'm curious about what color bikes people are buying. Please vote!

First choice was Crystal Gray, second was black with stripes, third was black. Ended up with black because I didn't want to wait for two months and convinced myself that it wasn't that big a deal anyway.

I wanted a Granite Grey but ended up with a Midnight Black as it was the only one with ESA.

Am, however, very happy now as I feel the black is more timeless...

Black because my other bikes are black. BUT- I'm really starting to like the Granite Gray although I haven't seen one on the road yet.
Lust is the worst of all sins it can make you crazy.

I got the Crystal Gey because that's what was there and I liked it well enough. I might have gone for the Granite Grey if given the choice.

Crystal Grey - my first choice. Since ordering ASC meant I had to waaaaaiiiiiittttt anyway, might as well have the one I liked. Don't mind Granite Grey or plain black .. but the way the pinstripes are positioned doesn't work for me (I really like the idea, just loathe the layout).

I'm getting my pannier lids and topcase lid colour-coded. My dealer assures me the painter can get a perfect match, but we'll see if it does the same thing with light angles ... and I'm taking the tank decal off. I saw a link from here (cain't find it now, o'course) a bike done this way and decided it was just the ticket for me.

(to anticpate the suggestions, I'll be laying a clear vinyl over the leading edges and obvious scuff points of the panniers ... )

I had planned to buy a black R1200R like the black R1150R it was going to replace. But once I saw the granite gray bike, that's all she wrote.

For those who are undecided, or who "settled" for black, look again

The black ones look good but I hear that they are inherently slower. Is that true?

Let me correct your misconceptions (obviously from an unconfirmed source).
Some people falsely report the black bikes as being slow because when they attain WARP speed (usually around 5K RPM) standard speed measuring devices no longer give correct readings. First all the bikes start off as Black bikes,the gray and crystal bikes are black bikes that didn't have the power to maintain WARP and the black paint burned off on reentry, leaving only the prime coat on the bike. The company then shoots a coat of clear on them and sells them at a discount to the dealers.

I hope this answers your question, if not, seeing as I'm a retired old guy I could add a few thousand more words at a later time. But first I have to drag my old /5 out and take it for it's weekly ride - it's a tough life but someone has to do it.

Surpisingly - I also have the low seat and it's actually the best seat I've had from BMW. I can usually go 5-6 hours on it before the onset of pain. If I add my Freedom Air cushion to it - I'm good for 7-8 or even more sometimes (depends on road surfaces - smoother = longer, out of NJ = longer since NJ grows the potholes for surrounding states..) I suspect this might be due to it being firm. Or not. I don't worry it, I'm just happy I finally have a semi-comfortable BMW seat.

When you said you like the new seat I just figured you were going senile or possibly numb from the waste down, as I hate my seat. But on closer examination, I think the seats may have quite a different profile. Looking at the step up in the seats it seems yours is deeper than my 'normal' height seat. That would make the seating area flatter. We'll have to get them side by side some day. I might be looking for a low seat.

I got the black with pinstripe as it was the only one that they had at the new Gateway BMW in St. Louis. I liked the slate better, but when I got a first hand look at the pinstripe black... the classic look really came out and I like it OK.

BTW... it is much faster with an Airhawk on it than the Freedom Air.....

Crystal Gray, hands down, followed closely by the black with pin stripes. Heck, they all look good.

I have been monitoring this site for quite a while and have gotten lots of good info from you guys. I'll put my two cents in once I get the feel of this.
I have a crystal grey metallic R1200R which is the color I wanted and was lucky enough to find at Lone Star BMW in Austin. I like the way the metallic color changes in sunlight.
I also caught the comment about the seat. I have the middle height seat and it was tough at first but after getting the suspension set properly, making the bike level for my weight (220LBS), the seat works just fine for me. My wife does not like her perch at all so there will have to be a change made there soon. I have some credability in my statement about the seat in that I live in New Orleans, bought the bike in Austin, TX and have visited my brother in Atlanta, Ga. spending a few tank to tank miles on board.

So you bought the other one! Good to know I still have the only granite grey R1200R in Austin. Enjoy.

After 15,000 miles with my pinstripes, I'm glad to have them. That's what was available at the time of purchase.

Black with pinstripes...I fell in love and only wish I could remove the lettering and keep the stripes. Don't much care for the lettering.

For awhile I was lamenting not having ESA too, but now that my bike has been in the shop for over two weeks just to repair the ABS I'm happy I don't have any other complex gee-gaws.

BTW, little known fact, the pinstripes actually act like the dimples in a golf ball and reduce drag significantly. That's why the bikes with striping go faster and get better mileage...
