This'll prob'ly jinx me, but ...

My R1200R arrives at the dealer tomorrow or Thursday, and I pick it up Saturday. What a wait that has been ... and hard on my pocket, since boredom was chanelled into farkelling. I'll have to wait a week for panniers and topcase to be colour-coded, and then it's all done.

(that snicker you can hear from the Jersey shore is Don, safe in the knowledge that farkelling has no end)

I still haven't see one in Crystal Grey, or even a K1200GT (the only other bike that comes in this colour, AFAIK), but the pics of them with painted bags and box look pretty good.

Dealer (Procycles) have been great and the guy who did the deal has offered to fit farkles in pre-delivery. He didn't even blanche when I took the (large) box up there last weekend (.. or when my little crawler put her hands all over the shiny new exhausts in his showroom).

I haven't looked under the F650CS' cover this week to see how it feels about losing touring duty to the new one, but I think it'll get the hint soon because I'll be putting my first 1,000km on in a week to get teh first service done (already booked) before I take a week's run - 3,500km or thereabouts - north to Queensland for some early spring sunshine.

After all this time you better have your digital camera ready. I'm looking forward to seeing your bike in the gray with painted bags, although I'm sure it will cause severe physiological problems. I wonder how my wife would react if I put a Gray R1200R in the garage next to the black -- on second thought maybe I don't want to know.

I guess spring isn't too far away on your side of the world so it looks like your machine is arriving at the perfect time.

Camera at ready, suh!

I haven't had great success with a photo site, so once it's all ready I'll need to email pics to someone to post ...

I have seen one other pic of a Crystal Grey with painted bags (and tank decal removed) - but can't find the url again. That pic was my inspiration - I agree with you, Harry, that the black bags tend to unbalance the bike visually. The lighter coloured bags make quite a difference - though mine will have the black rubber protectors as well (too many stone chips otherwise), and the topcase will have the black backrest.

Otherwise, you won't see much non-stock on this one: the Wilbers have black springs, so they look more 'stock' than stock; the bar-risers and lower pegs shouldn't be too obvious; the Cee Bailey screen has a stock look; and the hugger more or less disappears.

I'm thinking seriously about the GS starter motor cover now ... and then there's a new seat ... maybe the Staintune full system? Oops, late for my therapist ...

Jinx is in

Yep, jinxed. My bike is indeed in port, but thanks to a very large load (lotsa bikes coming in for spring, I guess) mine won't make it into the warehouse until next Monday, so the dealer won't have it 'til Wednesday, so I won't have it 'til next Saturday. C'est la vie.

This leave me with just two days to get enough kilometres on for the first service - so that'll be rain, hail or shine. This dealer gives its demos a first service at 400km, so I won't bother with too many more than that.

And I'll have to put of colour-coding until after the first trip: paint'd still be too soft for backroad work. So, Harry, your pics will wait ...

Bill,
I hope you can get this down there. If not maybe we could take a collection and overnight some to you.
I guess the good news is your looking ahead to the start of a riding season while up here were looking at the end of ours (unless someone is one of those demented Polar Bear guys).

I don't know what bulimia nervosa (something about eating ?) is, but you are for sure a candidate for the other things.

GS has a cover over the starter motor(in the past all R11/12?? had I guess) but on the new R1200R and R1200S they are left off for weight savings. I think this is fine but if you wan't you can fit the starter motorcover of the R1200GS. You also could order a carbonfiber one from one of the German Farkle pushers  or just have an original BMW part in silver or black.

I saw where someone added the GS cover to their R - but had to trim the GS cover to fit. Apparently it isn't plug and play.. the frame is enough different that it required modification to the cover to fit it.

Personally - the naked starter doesn't bother me at all.. what does is the naked pivot point for the rear swingarm on the left side of the bike. There are fancy covers available for it - for lotta-dough$$$ from several vendors. All that's really needed is a mate to the black plastic one on the other side, but can't seem to find that anywhere.

Are there no machineists on this site? Group buy of covers.

Harry - such a nice thought. I think I'll pass on the selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors and reach for that handy mix o' histamines, tannin and alcohol suspended in red fluid, aahhh, that's better. Here's my prescription ... slowly working through the list (take one a day with good food)

Bugger on the GS cover - I'll look more closely at how exposed the starter is - I checked RT, S, ST and R and none have the GS cover, so it's probably only bling.

As for a left side cover for the frame, Don, I'm sure I saw one in my farkle-googling (plenty o' alloy ones if you want more bling ..)
Ah - try Horning - these come black anodised

I'm going to exercise restraint on this one (weakening, weakening ... )
