My warranty is good for 3 years from the day I bought the bike or 36,000 miles (if bought new), right? NOT the date of production.

And if someone buys my bike, does that warranty transfer without any extra charges for the duration of the original warranty?

I'm pretty sure it's 36 months from the date you buy the bike. Based on some used ones I've seen listed for sale at dealers, I think the remaining warranty transfers to new owners, but I don't know 100%.

The warranty period starts from the date of the orginal purchase. The warranty is also transferable.

Way back in another life when I was a used car salesman we would jokingly tell people when they asked "The car you just sold me----does it have a warranty?...........Yes sir, you have the Oklahoma warranty.......if it breaks in two you get to keep both parts!"

I believe the warranty begins with what BMW calls the "service date" which they keep in their computer. This is the date the bike went into service. I believe it can be looked up by any dealer.

Of interest, and I could be wrong, I've heard some "demo" bikes have service dates of when the dealer started using them as a demo. When you buy these bikes, you may not get a full three years warranty from date of purchase.

In addition to the above, if the bike is a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) you get an additional 2 years and 24,000 miles above the original warranty.

My state of flux bike was a CPO and had 6 years/60,000 miles of warranty which the new owner was very thankful for since he didn't have a lot of mechanical skills. Went from a Honda Interceptor to the RR.

Correct, on both counts.

Then there are the "cancelled" warrenties, like on my bike. When I bought it I thought it would have a few months left on the warrenty; but when I asked my dealer, they looked it up and said BMW had cancelled the warrenty b/c the bike was involved in an accident.

Of course, there is no evidence it was involved in an accident, and it has a clear title. I knew is was a minor accident victim when I got it, and the guy I got it from is a capable mechanic who fixed it, and whom I trust. AND I got it for a real good price—good enough to give the saying "ride it like you stole it" some meaning.

So I've decided I'm going to do all the maintenance, starting at 12K myself, as long as I can master the skills. I worked professionally as a mechanic for a few years, and back when parts of a car engine were still recognizable, I used to do all my own; so I have a little confidence (misguided as it might be).

I will be a little miffed if my "somewhat weeping" FD turns out to be a "really leaking" FD (or worse), but I guess I'll get by. For now I'm enjoying the heck out of this bike and enjoying keeping a bigger pile of my money than I originally planned.
