To cold for a ride I guess.....

Christmas day ride, all went well until i put her back in the garage.
The rubber grommett that goes on the swing arm to the wheel started leaking. They say this is pretty bad and not to touch it if this happens. So off to Twin City. My first leak, besides the fuel leak 6 months ago.
Anyone else have this happen>
What was it when they fixed it???

Mine has done this a couple of times over the years..and each time I just give it a wipe and clean (on the outside of the boot)..and all is good.
I would give it a clean and see if it continues..I think it's one of those "they all do that things"..

Are you talking about the black ribbed cv boot? If so that is essentially just a dust cover to keep crud away from the drive shaft. Like DJ said almost all of them will weep a tad. A very small spot of oil will make a big mess once it gets covered with brake dust and road grime.
I once had to replace the black plastic zip tie with a new one and made it a bit tighter.

It was a pinion seal on my rear drive and Twin City fixed it right up, no problem. Hope that is all yours needs too.
Hang on, this weekend is supposed to be a little warmer !

I'll have to look it up later when I get home dd, but it wasn't a major project for them. Might have been right at the end of warranty period, I'll look it up.

Geo...Nice guys down there at Twin City!
I stopped by last year on my way back from Cincinnati, very hot day and I needed a break, they said to stay as long as I needed, offered me water right away, and asked if I had any problems with my R.
They wanted to know all about my R, ended up MC yacking for about 45 min to an hour, buying some stuff, just because they made me feel at home!
Next time I go to Indy or Cinci, I'll stop in again!

Yes, we had a nice visit with them right before Christmas ourselves. Charlie is now working on the car side and Ed is steering the ship for bikes.
Well, as for the repair. I looked and we have had two of those pinion seals fail in the past couple years on different bikes. One was as I remembered, a warranty repair. That one took 2.33 hours of tech time. The other one took 3.10 hours to repair, but included a part not needed on the first one. The actual seal costs about $ 10. Shop labor is billed at $ 70 per hour. There could be other causes for leakage at the boot, but if its the pinion seal, this should give you an idea of what a dealership will charge to renew it.
