Instrument Cluster Recall Notice

Just before leaving work yesterday (Friday 5pm) I received a call from the dealer where I purchased my ride back in 2002, informing me that BMW had issued a recall and that they would replace my instrument cluster free of charge. I have not, as of yet, received a letter from BMW. The caller said he did not know if they were going to be sending one out or not. He said that it was not a safety issue, and he did not know anything else about it.

I have never had any problems with it outside of the common one of the non-working low-fuel light. Anyone else out there gotten the notice or know anything about this?

Hey,

I just double checked the NHTSA database and there is no recall for an instrument cluster. There is only NHTSA bulletin 04V028000 that was reported on Jan. 15th 2004 for the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

I had noticed my clock shaking in it's housing, but I just tightened the nut when I was changing the windshield! :)

I received a call from my local dealership regarding a recall notice to inspect the wiring harness, behind the instrument cluster. It's identified as recall # 6100406054. They inspected the wiring harness for signs of chafed or pinched wires, then put on a piece of covering where the harness could possibly rub against the frame. Took about 1/2 hour. Had a cup of coffee and checked out the new bikes. Tempted, but my black 'o3 fits just right. 8)
