BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I own a 1996 R1100R and I'm getting a slow leak from my clutch release lever. I assume it's gear oil from the transmission. I called my local BMW dealer and he said it's coming from one of three seals. He also suggested that I replace the seals in all three places. The cost estimate was $700.00 and up depending on what they find. I'm depressed. Does anyone out there have any ideas besides anti-depression pills? Many thanks. Gordon

Try another brand of gear oil. Watch the leak. Determine if the change helps. Some seals can be softened and leaks abated with a different oil brand. How bad is the leak?
