BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

Hi All,

I am new to this forum....although I have been a lurker for a while:-). I will be purchasing 08 R1200R in a couple of weeks (it's a huge change from GSX R600....but my back cannot take it anymore and I would like something a little more practical). My questions is about the pricing. The dealership in CA offered me the bike for $14,545 + $1,455 in tax and lisence. It has computer, heated grips (don't know why I need those in CA), Center stand and ABS. Does this sounds like a good price for it?.......on a gixxer I was able to cut $1200 off the MSRP....the price they are offering me seems to be too close to MSRP.....

Got my 07' a few months ago with same options plus sport screen and side bag mounts. It was pretty much in the same $ range. Not sure what negotiation options are available as I hear they all stay pretty close to sticker. May want to check a few other dealers though for reference. The heated grips have come in quite handy (pun intended ) over these past few months in LA. Got a heated vest too - which is nice especially when heading up into the mountains.

If you can't get them to knock the price down, try to negotiate for accessories you'd like to buy. The dealer will probably be more cooperative since his cost is a good deal less than the list price, but to you it's still $500 or $1000 that you won't have to shell out later on. Check out the farkles like tailrack, luggage, maintenance CD or get some new riding gear. Have fun, it's a great ride!

I use mine in Sacramento. We get 30's all winter long. Gerbing heated clothes and heated grips, beats parking it for the winter.

Not sure if the price you're quoted is one you negotiated on or if it is just what dealer presented to you. I heard, and know from experience it is hard to talk em down at the BMW dealers, not like buying a Japanese made bike, but you can talk them down somewhat. I'd expect you may be able, as was suggested, to get some deals on additional gear. Example, A&S cycles in Sacramento advertises Spring Fling (I think beginning March - the offer is 3 payments made or $1000 in gear credit on the R12R and other new bikes. Still, your price probably isnt too bad. I paid the same as you for a very low miles demo R12R last year, only differance was a few xtras - chrome pipe and sport screen which were already mounted on the bike . Anyway, you may be able to work some additional $ off or get extra gear.

I believe BMW has a promotion going on right now that gives the $1000 in "stuff" for several models including the Roadster. The $1000 would pay for bags and perhaps some goodies for the bike, making it a decent deal..

That's around what I paid for mine with the same options.... with $1000 in gear bucks.

Too bad BMW Motorrad NA doesn't give a discount to MOA members like BMW NA does for BMW CCA member's....

yes....i know about the Spring Fling.......but it's nothing to do with Sac dealership....it's BMW financing promo....good only 2007 bikes.....

Don't buy the hard bag mounts if you are going to be buying the rear tray or rack thing ( having a senior moment and can't think of it's proper name ) as it comes with mounts built on. The separate hard bag mounts end up sitting in the shed like mine. I love my R1200R more than any I have ever owned.
