Has anyone else had this happen?..I'm not sure where to start looking to try and fix it.

DJ,

I'd check the taillight bulb to see if it has worked loose. Check the wiring harness for rubs that have resulted in a short - from the fuse box rearward on the left, crossing over to the right under the seats, along the frame to the rear housing. I've forgotten what mods you might have made, but any draw above the low voltage of the taillight bulb could cause an overload.

A frayed or corroded ground could also do this. Check the taillight housing for loose, corroded, or otherwise spent terminals, wires, etc.

Also check the front parking lamp (shares the circuit) for loose, frayed, or rubbed around the headlight nacelle.

Not a great help but a start.

Fuses blow when the current capacity is exceeded. The #2 fuse is 4 amps.....I would be looking for a ground, where the wire plastic cover has been rubbed off and is going to ground (metal). Get a wiring diagram and chase the hot wire from the fuse box all the way back to the lights......yes, tedious, but caca appens......she has been good to you......your turn to help her out.

Thanks guy..will do..I've made no mods but did have a drama once where my tail light would not work and they replaced the ignition switch and that fixed it..Maybe it's related.

You may have a pathological condition where the bulb filament broke and rattled down into the base and shorted out the fuse. Try replacing the bulb first before tearing your bike apart to see if it fixes it.

Just an idea from a simpleton who thinks easy is good. :)

Is there any follow-up to this problem? Did you find the short?
I am now having the same problem. I had Hyperlights installed, but removed them and the fuse kept blowing after doing so.
I replaced the tail light as well.
Maybe I'll try the front parking light?
Thanks
Doug

OK, I just replaced the fuse (4 amp) and put a new front parking light in (old one burnt out).
I do have a couple of small cuts in the tail light wires where I had tapped into them a while back. They were covered well with electrical tape. Couldn't really see how those wires "short out'.
Going on a ride tomorrow and i'll see if the fuse doesn't burn.
BTW, the front parking light is really loose where it fits into the back of the lens. That wouldn't burn a fuse, would it?
