Hi guys,
I traded in my Rockster for a brand new R1200S last week, so I'm out of this thread.
Since there's no dedicated R1200S-thread I'm more or less out of this site as well :?

This thread has been a very valuable resource for me, and surely for many others as well, so keep up the good work =D>

There is a forum at Pelican Parts for BMW R1100S / R1200S...try that one...it's pretty similar...

I recently sold my 50R and got a used 1100S, but decided to stay with both forums as both have some interesting topics and occasionally a bit of witty dialogue...

Good luck with that 12S...quite a machine...

Before you go, post a pic or two here

Maybe even let us know how the new ride is working out. No reason not to check in from time to time.

Hello again guys,

I've now had my R1200S for three days, and ridden about 400km (not that much, but it has been raining a lot lately).

First, I don't regret the change. It was really hard letting the Rockster go, because in my opinion it's one of the best-looking bikes ever 8)
I never had any problems with it, and it went really smooth. The thing that started to bug me though was the lack of power.
The Rockster is heavy, and 85bhp ain't that much. Now it may seem like I'm a speed maniac, but I'm not. Acceleration is more my cup of tea :D

The R12S is much lighter and also has a much stronger engine then the Rock. When driven it feels lighter as well; more as if I float along the road and round the bends :)
I also like the fact that when i twist the throttle, the reaction is instant. The bike just pulls more and more and more. With the Rockster it was crucial to be in the right gear and at the right RPM. The R12S pulls nomatter what, allthough it likes some RPM to really get things going.

Another significant change is the gearbox. Changing gears on the Rockster was to me a bit like a German tank - clutch all the way in and a good "ca-chunk" that one could both hear and feel :D
The gearbox on the R12S is much faster and more direct - the clutch is almost not needed at all, and the gearchange is very fast and very smooth.

The riding position is also very different. The Rockster is a cruiser and a really comfortable ride. Not so much with the R12S. The seat is harder, and the load on shoulders and wrists is significant. I suppose I'll get more used to it, but no doubt it's much easier to drive long distances on the Rock than the R12S.

That's my thoughts for now, if I had the money I would've had both the bikes sitting in my garage

Congrats on the new ride...I totally understand why you prefer it, and why you like it so much...I recently sold my 50R to pick up an 1100S as I was looking for something a bit sportier. Just can't afford to buy a new 12S! :(

And yeah, it would be nice to have sufficient funding to own two motorcycles at the same time! I'd love to have a Ducati 748S in the garage (and an MV F4, and a Moto Guzzi, and a...well, you get the picture!).

ENJOY!!!
