have you had a chance to check out a Corbin seat yet mate?

I bought a Corbin seat for my '99 Hayabusa a few years back. It was not comfortable and the fit was atrocious, there was two pressure points on the body work that were going to cause problems and it had to be forced into position. The seat pan looked like it was made in somebody's kitchen, maybe it was a knockoff Cirbon seat, it sure looked like it. It went around the block, came off the bike and went back to the supplier. My only experience with Corbin, but I'd leave their seats to your cruiser buddies, IMHO.

That rather a typical experience with Corbin. If you order from them - every seat - even the ones right off their truck at a rally - are non-returnable because they are "custom made" for you. That's their policy, and a good reason to buy them from someplace that will let you return it if it doesn't fit correctly.

In the seat biz - Corbin has about the very worst customer service reputation I know of.. so buyer be forewarned.

I had planned to venture north in May and make a stop at the Corbin factory as well as the Mayer and Russell facilities on my way to Oregon, then maybe buy something on the return trip. Surprisingly, our house sold (3 solid offers in the first week listed ), so I had to postpone while we go through the moving ordeal. My current plan is to go in September. By then someone else may have something useful to contribute other than the usual Corbin bashing. My own previous experience with Corbin was initial disappointment with a poor fit which was satisfactorily corrected by customer service. My feeling at this point is they can't be all bad and remain in business. So, we'll see...

Corbin- poorly made product backed up by crappy customer service. I had to return my R11R seat twice for a poorly constructed seat pan and then the leather peeled off the base. Finally sent the stock seat to Sargent for their custom recovering and that worked great.

I actually find the stock seat very comfortable (unlike the R12GS or R11R).

Thanks for the replies guys, and congrats on the house sale Ron. Some on the board have noted that the low seat is more comfy, is that what you have Echo? Being in Australia I can't bring myself to spring for a Corbin and be dissatisfied with it.

I have the standard seat. Keep in mind that I ride a bicycle with a seat with no padding 150 miles a week so I'm probably not a very good judge of comfort. The firmness and shape just seem to work for me.

i have the standard seat and can only bear it for no more then an hour or so.......after that my butt falls asleep and I quickly loose any interest in riding any further without a 15min to half hour rest. The seat is my biggest complaint about the bike......i'll be looking at getting a custom seat as soon as the budget permits......
i have close to 2000 miles on the bike but neither my butt nor the seat have any sign of break-in.

I too have the standard seat which is sometimes better depending on what clothing I've got on. But I'm sure this seat grows teeth after a while on it. The bike has just had a 10000 klm (6000 ml) service and is running real nice. It's amazing what a throttle body sync and valve job does(Remus headers and Laser can). The dealer also did the warranty work which included the brake line, ews and the new download to address the ping it had on hard throttle at times. Total cost was $90 because I do my own fluid changes.
The service from BM here is first class and considering the 600 mile service was free this bike will have only cost me $90 at the dealer for up to 20000 klms of riding. Low service costs combined with excellent fuel ecomony and good performance is why I will probably keep this bike, even though at times the seat pisses me off, and will have to be reworked locally. Every now and then I get an urge to change bikes (Moto Morini9 1/2, Griso 8 valve or wait for a 1200 Shiver) but the R12R has so much going for it, as you all know.

Oh, how i wish I lived within riding distance of Seattle! I'd pay a grand for a seat like that.

I took a chance...
I ordered a Corbin and expect it to be delivered (hopefully) by the end of the month (in time for a weeklong trip).
So far the process has been great. Great communication from Corbin, prompt returning of phone calls etc.
I even got a Thank You postcard after I placed the order - not a deal maker, but a nice touch.

I'll let you know if I get it on time, how construction and comfort are after I get back from my trip.

I'll either be full of praise, or have listen to you guys saying 'I'll told you so..."

I'm with you here....i just don't want to gamble with somebody's interpretation of what my butt likes (ordering on the internet)....i'd rather ride to the shop and have them take all measurments they want......
