Post by Arbee »

Tasmania Australia Eastcoast Part 1 of 6

formerley known as Terra De Van Diemans Land

Captain Matthew Flinders from England sailing in the Investigator in 1801 was
trying to beat the French Captain Baudin from claiming the bottom half of
Australia and making it a French Colony, although some parts of the eastcoast
of Tasmania has been named after members of the Baudin vessel
(Peron Dunes) near St Helens the lack of freshwater, ruggedness of the
terrain and hostile Aborigines were enough to ward the French off to allow
the English to claim the territory and sovereignity.
