BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I finally brought my bike home and have started repairs/upgrades.
I was going to do a detailed report of all the different things I am replacing, but since I am still on one foot and working alone it proved to be too much to shoot the whole process. If there's anything you're interested in seeing how I do any of this work, I can take some shots.
Unfourtunately not all of my parts came yet, I'm still waiting on the Ohlins, exhaust, K-mirrors, aftermarket levers. I also am having my wheels/valve covers/handle bar/Ztechnik screen mount powder coated and I dropped all that stuff off on Sat. Taking the tires off on one leg sure was interesting!
Everything will be here and ready by next weekend, and that's fine because I'm going to be in NYC all week working anyway.

That trailer photo is so sad.

All that damage from a 10 mph crash? Jeez.

That has to feel good and put a smile on your face. Hang in there, you'll be on your next adventure before you know it!

Thanks guys, yes the trailer pic is sad, yes I'm very happy the end is near, it is amazing how much damage from a minor spill, though honestly all I really needed to get it going was valve covers-thank God for full coverage.
Eisen, it's just nuts and bolts, dont' let it intimidate you. My "relationship" with my bike has grown immensely after I started wrenching on it last year, much more personal if that makes any sense. I was always that kid who took everything apart when I was young, driving my father crazy! I guess I'm just not afraid to rip anything apart, I want to figure out how it all works. With help from people on this forum who have been doing it much longer than I, and a service manual I can do anything!
When I look at what the dealer was charging for labor on each item, and then how long it actually took me ( doing a lot of things for the first time) I'm glad I went this route, putting my money into improving my bike instead of the owner of the dealer's pocket. Not that my dealer's shady, I think it's just the business...

Today my pins come out(hopefully), so I should be able to go for a much needed ride next week...

you can get a maintenance DVD on ebay, look for the 1200R or 1200S, they are the same...

Started my own project yesterday, low-sided the Buell XB @ 30mph, sharp turn with my lane covered in farm implement hydraulic oil. Not many parts dinged, but rationale for a project nonetheless. Glad it wasn't my Rockster... the Buell replacement parts are cheap.

I look forward to it being done, though it looks like it will be done before I can ride - I have about 10 days in a medical boot. The good news is my pins were removed today

Sorry to hear about your crash, I take it you're OK? That's all that really matters.... projects are good.

My exhaust, and mirrors came today so I'm just missing a few things. Too bad I have to go to NYC in the morning. I hate working in NY. But have to pay for some of these upgrades and upcoming Adventures....

I hope your health is OK, and glad it wasn't your Rockster, though if you were on a BMW the german engineering might have saved you from crashing to begin with j/k, Believe me I know first hand how expensive all the little parts on a BMW cost...

I bought the only "BMW" listed aftermarket can available from my dealer. Besides raving reviews, it was just easier to buy this one in my situation. If I could have chosen any can, and was paying 100% out of pocket I would have bought a SKB for under $400... half this one. Guess I'll just have to live with it.

I researched it on the go to place for a Roadster- r1150r.org

It's amazing how much lighter it is compared to the stock can, my step father was here last evening and had it in his hand and asked what's so special about this can to make it so expensive, when I then put the OEM one in his hand he said, " oh, I see now"... Funny how they cost they same though.
Thinking of what is becoming of my bike, it's going to be shame seeing it laying in the mud in the future... for a minute I actually thought I might need to reconsider where I go on my R.... but that thought only lasted a minute.

I know a few people with Leo Vince SBK exhaust, they seem to like it and never heard any complaints.
When I was researching which exhaust to buy - before I was aware my choices would be limited to one - it seemed like a good affordable choice. They do have a number of options for the 1200R that look nice....

I'm not sure if I'll be removing my tank on this project, but if I can get any shots I will.
Why do you need to remove it? Maybe someone around here can enlighten you on the subject............. Don?
