I loaded up the KLR and took a ride out to the "Teddy Roosevelt National Park" in North Dakota, a round trip of about 1600 miles, I went down through So.Dakota and
up the western edge of No.Dakota and drifted a little into Montana. This is my first Dual sport and it performed very well, I did not do any "Off-Road" riding but I did ride a few dirt/gravel roads. I camped in the state parks of So.Dakota, and Mn, and the National park in N. Dakota. I went alone as this was going to be a relaxing ride (which it was), I wish I had the photo skills of some of the other posters, (although it could be the result of my "cheap camera" Den

I talked to the Guy riding this (Victory Vision), I think it might be a great ride, I would love to ride one coast to coast, BUTTTTT, and I know beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, well in my eye this is ONE UGLY BIKE!!!! Just my opinion, I appolige to any and all who own one, as I said I am sure it is a great ride, but Man, ya gota look at it every morning!!!!

Of Course I'm sure to some this is pretty UGLY also

Looks like an excellent trip with a great camping spot. Your KLR looks lowered. If so, how much did you take it down? I’m seriously thinking of putting a sidecar on the R1150R and getting a bike like yours for solo duty. However, with a 30” inseam I’ll need to drop it at least an inch. I sat on one a while back that was lowered an inch. It was ok and the owner of the bike was more inseam challenged than I am. Your bike is definitely better looking and way more functional than that Victory thing.

Thanks Rob, Yes I am inseam challenged also, I lowered mine 2" If I were to do it again I would go with either the 1" or 1/12", (my inseam is 29/30"). My only advise is to beware of the cheap e-bay links (Bones) This is a critical stress point and I am not sure of the Integrity of the cheap ones, (this is just MOP) You will also have to lower the forks (ten minutes) and you will need a new Kickstand, With the 2" I can flat foot it, and (being just a little older) it is much easier getting on and off.
I purchased the lowering links at "Happy Trails"


How much to lower the forks is a personnel matter, I lowered mine 1/3/4" seems to work well.

All in all the KlR is a Fun MC, it is not a "R" but it is fun.
