A friend has a brandy new GS_Adventure, and he has the "fog" lights on it. In looking over the new GS handguards, I noticed his left switch assembly had a very handy thumb reachable switch for the fog lights..



Parts 6, 7, 8 - looks like it would go right on the Roadster. Only problem is $$ cost.. something around $125 or so.

Gonna have to talk to Max's parts department..

1$125 is a little pricy for a switch..On my 1150r's i had an xtra sw. inside the handguard on the left sidedouble stick tape worked fine..& you could index finger it!!!
I haven't yet up-farkeled to the point of needing more sw.gear , but my tandy 64k cerebrum is werkin on it!!! thanx fer the 411

The 04 GS I just bought uses the turn signal cancel switch. There is a module you buy called an Autoswitch. It is wired in, comes can bus or non canbus, is cheaper and cleaner. I beleive it wil work on the R no problem.

I can attest that the Autoswitch does work quite nicely on the R models. About the only thing you have to remember (if the wiring is done properly) that every time you shut the key off you will need to manually turn the auxilary lights back on when you restart. Not a problem at night, but sometimes you can forget to turn them on for conspicuity during day light hours.

And...MUCH cheaper than the separate BMW assembly. Think mine cost 25 bucks +/- from Aerostitch.

I actually have an AutoSwitch - never used.. the slightly older one that isn't CanBus compatible.. and was going to use it for the same purpose, but everything I found said it wouldn't work with the new bike. Is there a PN for the one that is CanBus compatible?

Don, can't help you with the Canbus question...my bike was a '50R. Got mine from Aerostitch, perhaps they could tell you?

Thanks again for the pointer to LumaLink, nice products but unfortunately for me they won't work on an 11S. Two piece fender, fork brace, and just too little clearance between the fairing panels when the fork is compressed and where there would be room to mount the LumaLink bracket. Found another solution though with a bracket that attaches to the cylinder head cover bolts, not buying the product on the market as my brother in law is a pretty good fabricator and will make the brackets for free. Well, there may be a couple of beers involved!

I looked into the Autoswitch option and while the switch was priced ok, on the Canbus version it requires significant disassembly of the switchgear. It looked too involved for me to attempt and at $75/hr I wasn't going to have a mechanic do it, so I never pursued it further.

Take a look at the installation instructions on their website before you order.

Actually, I did, and while I could do the soldering involved (been doing it for about 5 decades now..) I try to not cut up the factory harness while it's under warranty. Cutting into the harness gives BMW a great excuse to not honor the warranty if something electrical goes wrong.. so I just don't do it (even though I have a complete spare harness.. don't ask.. )
