Sargent seat on the Rockster

Post by Nakigara »

Does anybody have any pictures of a Sargent seat on a Rockster? Also, I've seen all the posts describing how comfortable the rider seat is. Does anyone have an opinion on the passenger seat. My wife would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Dan

If you go to this thread, http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14321 there is a pic of the seat on my wet Lime Rockster, it was raining but you can see how it looks(just look for the post by me) . Jfslater bought it from me, he might be able to give his opinion on comfort.
See, I told you guys, half the time I dont know what I'm talking about.

Funny I should see this, I put 375 miles on it yesterday. Honestly, not the revelation I thought it would be, but still better than stock. I have been switching back and forth between the stocker and the Sargent this month. While the stock feels better initially, 30 minutes in I will start feeling it. Currently it takes about an hour on the Sargent before I wished I had brought my Airhawk with me.

I say "currently", because Marty2 was on the ride yesterday, and he had this to say: give it time. He was similarly disappointed with the Sargent he bought for his R. But said that it took him about 1000 miles to break it in, and then it was great.

Other observations: the BMW passenger seat doesn't work well with it, a bit of a wrestle to get it back in if you unhook the pillion. It has a handy little compartment underneath for paperwork and spare cash. Looks very cool, in my opinion.

So the review is not done yet. Feel free to PM me in a few weeks, as I may forget to check back in.

I've got the Sargent on my Rockster, but only the driver's section. Strongly preferred over either OE seat option, but not perfect. See Sargent comments here:

http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f ... it=sargent
http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f ... nt#p127733

The latter includes an explanation of my "perfect R1150R seat", which would be based on the Sargent.

Pic of the rider's section alone if you wish.

Cannot comment on pillion comfort, nor on the fitment of the combined Sargent sections as originally designed. Our famiy experience has been that pillion comfort is defined more by the add-on cushion than the base seat. Airhawk pads are popular with our hindquarters.

Reviving an old thread here...

Can anyone provide any further information as to the compatibility of the Sargent rider's saddle with the OE pillion? Looking at a used bike that has just the Sargent front.

Hi,I put the Sargent, and sargent pillion with backrest on my Rockster, much better in my opinion. With the factory seat I was constantly sliding forward, and my boys didnt appreciate it. The sargent is flatter, and the pillion is a tad wider, my wife also prefers the sargent. I would put pics on if I could figure out how.

Works fine. Have used this combination for the past 3 years.

I've got the Sargent "pilot" seat and the OEM pillion. Have had this set up for over 4 years. No problems. Since I very infrequently have a pillion, I've got an Airhawk for those occasions. I love the Sargent. Last year, I added an Alaska Leather sheepskin on top. Not that the Sargent by itself was any problem. It has added just enough "cush" to get me through an all day ride with no issues at all.

I have the Sargent on my Rock with OEM pillion. Never take a passenger so use a color matched tail piece.Putting the OEM on and off is no problem.I use that seat when I run a tail pack. Have a Corbin on my R1100 and in my humble opinion the Sargent is the better of the two.

I also have a Sargent seat for the Rockster. I think that the foam they use is brilliant but the design doesn't help me much. I'm short (5ft6) and the wider than stock seat makes my legs splay out even more thus rendering me tippy toeing at stops. Also the seat design is such that it makes me slide backward too far and I practically have to lean forward like I would on a crotch rocket in order to reach the handlebar.

The Sargent seat on my Aprilia Tuono is something else though. It's magical and sublime in the comfort department. 1000-miles days are no big deal.

Hi, I'm new to the site. I noticed you mentioned you are 5'6. I'm 5'5 and will be reviewing a Rockster with 6-8 thousand miles on it this weekend. I'm worried about height comfort for someone my size and how the weight dynamics play out.
I currently ride a Honda Hornet (CB 600 F), great bike, I know the Beemer is a bit heavier. I'd appreciate your opinion on the bike in general and your specific experience as well as any pointers.
Thanks.
PS Though I'm anxious to get this bike, I want to be very cerebral about the decision cos I'd hate for my first experience with beemers to be a bad one as it was for me in their cars.

Okay. The Rockster is TALL. Seat height is 33.5 inches. Add that to the steel gas tank that is just a bit above the seat, along with moving from the Hornet that probably weighs around 400 pounds (or less?). Rockster's wet weight is 518 lbs. You may be in for some "exciting" moments.

I've got a 34" inseam so the seat height wasn't as big an issue as the 100 pound weight jump was when I moved up from the BMW f650CS. The trickiest part was changing my body awareness/expectation of having to hold up a heavier bike at stops.

If you're a confident rider, you'll be able to surmount the issues. The Rockster is such a sweet bike.

Thanks for the info Lion-Lady. I was dreading the seat height issue :? . Actually I go to see the bike this weekend, from the sound of things I should probably bring a lower seat! The weight is another thing I'm going to have to fight with, you are right the Hornet is approx 400 pounds and when I've been called on to lift it up my elfin frame has not found it terribly amusing. I'm beginning to have concerns but I just love the Rockster, its purely biological which of course means the obsession will defy all reason, lol!
We'll c, I'll keep you all posted

Hi All,
Reviewed the bike this morning, needless to say, I'm sold :D !, hope I don't break the bank! Seat is VERY high for me though, so I'm thinking about retro-fitting the OEM seat, anyone?

I mean if push comes to shove I guess I'll bite the bullet and get a lower seat but I don't think it should be that hard for a die-hard DIY-er like moi!

Will appreciate any inputs or suggestions in the direction I'm moving.

Thank y'all!

If you shave the sides of the seat foam - lift off the cover and use an electric knife - you should be able to improve your reach to the ground. It will get your knees closer to the tank which will straighten your legs.

Oh yeah. Hubby has a 30" inseam and rode my Rockster to work a bunch last summer when his bike was all apart in the garage (after it lost the oil sight glass ... long story). He was on tippy toes, but didn't have any major uh-OH, problems.

Yeah, I was looking for an even swap with someone who had the 'low seat' and was willing to trade but that plan hasn't as they say 'materialized' :( . However I picked up these Gaerne boots, I had no idea how flat-bottomed my regular Sidi boots were, I'm now able to flat-foot my Honda Hornet, which means I'll be on the balls of my feet on the Rockster- a little more confidence I hope :P ! However I'm determined! I'm riding the bike back from Virginia Beach this weekend! Talk about a crash-course. I'm thinking I'll remove the seat and ride back on a peace of foam :doubt: , we'll see how my backside likes that.... the worst would be to drop the bike before we've been properly introduced, not that I mind kissing the girl before I ask her out, infact that is my modus operandi  !

Kobe, when I put my Sargent on it seemed to force my legs a bit wider, so with a 32 inseem, I was not flat footing the ground like I prefer. However, as time passed, and the more I road, the seat seemed to" wear in", it adjusted itself to the legs, and now I can flatfoot all the time with no problem.
