WFT....I go to get something outta my left case. at work yesterday.........close it up and ..Lo and Behold..the case is loose...Hhhhhhmmmmmm..that doesn't seem right.......sh!t.....the case came off in my hand as I tugged at it...WTF.....The latch that secures it to the mounting bracket is broken off..............Does anyone know...can this ( the latch ) be replaced or do I have to choke up $$$ for a new one?.........or try and find a used one and get it re-keyed..............Thanks in Advance......Tim

not sure if you mean the part that wedges under your mounting bracket. By that i mean not the moled part that fits into the mounting bracket but the part that moves out of the bag to engage the bracket.

If all of this mobo jumbo makes sense. Yes you can replace the whole locking/opening mechanism (called multifunction box)for about $150 (alot)

Or look for a used one.

Yes..it's the latch that wedges under the mounting bracket and secures the side case to the bike when you snap the handle closed. Looked at the parts breakdown and looks like the "multifunction box" needs to be relpaced.........$159 is indeed pricey........so...I'm looking for a used one........Thanks for the link to the parts breakdown..Tim

Been there, done that.. X2! I think the latch that breaks needs an improved replacement part. Too bad you have to buy the complete latch assembly, and not just the broken part.

I have broken both of mine. I have one upgraded latch in place now. I have a clever friend who sawed the latch apart and fabicated a new one out of 6061-T6 aluminum. Ten times better then the original. He's working on the other one now. I think the list price for that module is $198.

Can/will your friend sell the improved replacement parts? Do you have any hints on how to get the latch assembly apart to replace the broken part? I still have an old one and someday will get around to taking it apart to have a real part made up.

I will ask him if he's interested in building a few for sale. The pivots for the lock are pins but you cannot get them out because of the way the module is assembled. What my clever friend did was take his phenumatic hacksaw, a little air driven saw, and sawed through the pins in the module. I need to look more closely, but what he said he did was replace the pins with screws so he could assemble it in place. We were fortunate enough to have the broken piece from one of the locks to make the pattern with as the location of the holes is critical because the excentric motion of the lock. When we started this project I told him there might be some interest in selling parts and we thought the best was to build them on an exchange basis. I'll have to see if he has time for this. He has not finished my second latch, to put a point to it.
