Odyssey PC 680 VS. PC 680MJ Battery

And now onto batteries........

Researching the forum and the net at large, it seems that the Odyssey may be the way to go (according to most/some?) for a replacement battery. The MJ seems to be a little bigger (encased). Has anyone fit it in the Rockster? Some have not been able to get the 680 battery in with the L brackets that are sold as an add on and others have had problems with the wires not being long enough without them. Anyone with any info? I am not sold 100% yet and would appreciate any advice anyone has. There seems to be mixed reviews of the OEM. I am hoping to take care of this right the first time and to put off dealing with this again for as long possible......

Thanks

I haven't bought one yet but it will be the pc 680. You can do a search on this topic and there is plenty of threads on this battery.

I put the PC680Mj in my Roadster (non-Rock) and it fit fine, but it was quite tight. I'm not sure if the batt holder in the Rock and Road are identical or not. The reason I got the MJ was they were out of stock on the regular one and sent the MJ for the same price. Got it in just a couple o days. IIRC, the MJ version is for Harleys, but don't say nothing 'bout that around my bike, OK. We've both been happy with the Odyssey so far.

You'll be happy with it. I didn't have the L-brackets with mine, but you don't really need them. I just made a few bends to the stock connectors and screwed them on. I found the extra capacity really turns the engine over quicker.....or my old battery was really shot. The old one was in there for five years, probably 2 years over the limit. It was starting to turn pretty slow when it was cold. I was charging it every day for safety.

Battery cage for Roadster and Rockster are identical, like most of the bikes' parts.

You can smash the OE battery connectors to for the Odyssey - which is what I did for 680 is Mrs. Sweatmark's Roadster - but IIRC the positive lead can be coerced, while negative/ground is problematic. A simple DIY 90-degree angle to resolve the ground terminal problem can be hand fabricated from copper pipe, smashed flat, bent in a vise, drilled for nuts & bolts. Wish I'd done it that way the first time 'round.
