I can't tell from your profile what model bike you have, but I assume it's an R11XXR. Follow the fuel lines to the panel on the bottom of the tank. Be sure the tank is drained as much as possible. Remove the screws holding the panel and carefully remove the plate. Beware of the low fuel level float and vent hoses. You may need to remove the vent hoses. If you do, mark one of them with a plastic zip tie and mark the nipple on the plate similarly so they are connected again properly when you put it back together. The filter is attached to the fuel pump on the access plate. Carefully pry loose or cut the Oedeker (? spelling) clamps on the fuel filter hoses and replace with 5/16 inch fuel injection rated fuel clamps when you install the new filter in the right direction. (see arrow on filter). Reassemble.

+1 on what awagnon said.

Make sure you really run the bike down on gas or be prepared to drain the tank. Good luck.

I took the opportunity to relocate mine. It is now in the area under the tank where the ABS unit would otherwise reside. Now, I won't have to go inside the tank for routine maintenance.
