Remus claims quite a significant increase in horsepower/torque with their complete system (as opposed to a simple slip-on can). As I have been out of it with regard to BMW for years now, is there anybody here who has been willing to part with the money for a complete system and offer some feedback?

I purchased the Remus Power Cone Performance system late last year. I find the exhaust to perform very well. You can really feel the extra horsepower especially above 5,000 RPM. I also have no problem passing in 6th gear as the extra torque from the system comes into play between 3500 and 4000 RPM. The system is a little on the loud side but only when you demand power or just rev the engine. It took me a while to get the exhaust fit just right and to do this I could not use the rubber spacer located on the rear mount. I helped a friend mount his Power Cone Performance system this past weekend and it fit just fine including the rubber mount so maybe it was just a problem with the earlier exhausts or my lack of expertise. My fuel mileage still remained between 46 and 50 MPG at a mix of city and highway driving (75 MPH)...if I am cruising at 60 MPH I will get around 55 MPG. I would also recomend a K&N air filter to round off the performance. Good Luck on your decision.

Have had the complete Remus system on my '04 since it was nearly new and it has a bit more snap/pep than stock setup. Am considering lowering the muffler in order to use a full size hard case on the left side. What do I need to do the job? Thanks.

Are you talking about a R1200R?.... you shouldn't need to lower anything, and BMW doesn't make anything but full size bags for the 1200R....
Maybe go over to the other forums around here for help with that.

As for added power, I'd like to see some real data on any exhaust gaining any real HP on a 1200R...
Will it be slightly faster from the significant weight savings over the stock? Yes.
Will it sound faster? Yes to that too.
But actual gained HP that the average rider will be able to feel, I highly doubt it...
I have the Akropvic slip on, and when I had the baffles out, giving it more flow, it WAS slower without re-mapping it, and it ran like sh!t...
Not to rain on anyones parade, but show me some independent data on it or beat me in a race, and I'll be more likely to believe it...

These aren't HD's, or jap bike where you can throw on some cheap aftermarket "performance" parts and expect to gain ANY power. I would bet you would LOSE power if you were stupid enough to remove the air box and put a K&N filter on a modern BMW.
If a free flow filter made the bike have more power it would already be in there...
There's way more to it than increasing the air flow to making more power with this bike...

I know first hand that the engineers at Z-Technik spent almost a year trying to come up with a performance "chip" and package to sell with their exhaust. After they COULD NOT get ANY significant HP gain they scrapped the whole project... If there was more power to be had from a 1200R, why are there no tuners making "chips"?
Can BMW get more power out of the 1200 boxer engine with different compression, timing, valves, pistons, mapping, etc for their HP models or race bikes?
you bet.
Can a cheap, simple air filter and aftermarket exhaust make any significant difference? Not likely.


Back on topic... go buy any exhaust system because you like how it looks and sounds, or fits your budget.

If you buy one over the other because of claimed HP gains, I have a really cool bridge to sell you right after you buy it...


If you want some real performance gains on a BMW, go spend money on some track time with professional instructors and improve the biggest thing holding your bike's performance back - YOU.

i have akra slip on also.....got it for the looks, weight savings and the sound.....i do run it with buffles out (like the sound too much)....the bike does run ruffer then with the buffles in...but hey....you can't have everything...right.......on the power the akra brought....again...i would agree with above post.....get me the dyno numbers which directly compare with the stock can and then you'll have a chance at convincing somebody that you actually gained or lost anything.......personally, i do not beleive i lost or gained anything in power (no dyno to confirm) but the weight loss and the sound that is to my liking is very real......

No, I don't have dyno results. But I will say that after I installed the Remus (Powercone) full system on my R1200R, the grin factor went way up once I hit the 5k rpm area and above. And I like that it's lighter and MUCH cleaner looking than the stock setup. I've also added Ohlins, and it is simply one damn fun bike to ride.

My reply to comments made about my earlier post on the complete Remus exhaust system:
I had a lot of discussion with the folks at Remus before purchasing this system. There was no dyno information available for the exhaust/filter system other than what was offered by Remus and their numbers sounded reasonable. They claimed a 7-8 HP increase and 7-8 FT/LBS of torque increase. Additionaly I found their dyno tests showed about a 2 HP increase using the K&N "drop in" filter, this does not require changing the air box. I had 12,000 miles on my R1200R before I made the exhaust change so I knew what the bike performed like prior the the installation and the exhaust/filter change was very noticeable at 5,000 RPM and above.
