mixed up fuel lines - help

OK, I'm stupid, I am installing new fuel line disconnects and I forgot to mark which is which and I assume it makes a difference. I was so involved in just getting the dam things off. I'm replacing the plastic disconnects with metal ones. looked through my service manual and couldn't find anything. I'd rather not have to take them off once I get them on.
On the tank, the 2 lines coming from the fuel pump plate - one of the fuel lines is coming from a point near the center of the plate and the other is out further. On the bike, the 2 fuel lines are going into a housing with one over the other. Which goes with which?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have a 2005 R1150R Rockster.

Welcome... not sure I understand your question completely... but we've all been there... done that...
When you take your tank off it will have four hoses attached to it, the two large one's for gas, and two vacuum sized hoses. Open up you gas cap. See the little hole on the rim? It's about 1/8" diameter. Blow into one of the vacuum sized hoses hooked to the tank. When you blow into one of them, air will come out this little hole. That's your gas overflow line. Hook that up to a piece of hose near the right side of the air box, which drains to the ground and hook the other hose to the charcoal canister. Does that answer your question? In other words the two vacuum sized hoses hook up to two other hoses, one leading to the ground drain, the other leading to the canister. These connections are made near the right side of the air box.

Al, he's referring to the fuel lines themselves, I believe. And yes it does make a difference which goes to which line. They should be installed so the female end faces one way on one and the other way on the other one. That way, it's easier to reconnect them when you take them apart.
With tank turned right side up, the lines coming from the tank will fall naturally so one is above the other. The one on top as in the photo, is the one attached to the top line coming from the distributor. The one which falls on the lower side is attached to the lower line of the distributor.
Just turn the tank right side up and see which lines fall where, then do the connections based on that. CycleRob can enter here and verify which lines go to what connector under the tank, but you still need to know which line goes to what connector on the distributor. I did it the way I described above and my bike does not go backward or anything strange so I gues I got it right.

Here a picture of my bike and the lines I've confused (note blood):
and the diagram showing the lines coming from the tank. I'm assuming that the "center" line is the upper line as Beaze suspects in his post as well. When I did lay the tank upright, it seems to be this way as well.
Thanks all for that. I had hoped to take her out today, but we had a couple of inches of the cursed white stuff here in eastern PA, so I'll have to be satisfied with just starting the bike in the garage to confirm. I assume if they are hooked up incorrectly, the bike will run rough (or backwards

).

That's the return. The little arrows indicate output (arrow up) and return (arrow down). My mnemonic device for remembering it was by the fittings on the disconnects: male fitting out, female fitting fitting in (from the fuel's point of view that is).
Dirty minds will read more into that than needed.
When you install the new disconnects be sure to put them on like that so you can't get them mixed up in the future.

All good with new metal (chrome plated brass) disconnects in place. When I first started the bike, ran real rough until I realized a throttle cable was hung up. Cost about $80. from beemerboneyard. Got them in 2 days. - Rob
