I am still in the process of buying the r1150 and one of my reason to buy it outside the good looks was it has a better seating position(at least from all the research i have done) for long distance riding then a cruiser be it a Harley or any metric, with my previous cruiser anything past 2-3 hours and my back was killing me, from what i hear on the forums here biggest complaint is the knee pain depending on your height and possible age(hopefully not offending anyone).
so the question is for those who switched or have both from cruiser type bike to the R1150 are you more comfortable?
thanks

I'm sure everyone will have different opinions. I had a cruiser as my first street bike. It was fine for running around and back and forth to work. I took a trip to N.C. on it and about died.
I'm 5'7" and was 38. My legs, back, and knees were killing me. I was looking at some kind of highway pegs because I just felt like I needed to move my feet from time to time.
I have had my R for 3 years now and have taken a few long trips and it's way better. I can ride for hours without the need to pull over!
I do have these and they hardly get used but they are nice to stretch out on every now and then. http://cvmtouring.com/elforder.htm
Everyones different. I was talking to some guys the other night about riding and they felt just the opposite. They had to have their legs out in front. They said it would kill them to have their feet tucked under them with their knees bent all the time.
thanks for the reply, i am pretty much in the same boat(5'8 with 30 inseam), my first bike was a cruiser(sold this past weekend) and pretty much any ride that lasted a day 2-3hours riding break for food then ride home lets say, by the time i would get home i could not wait to get off the bike and go lie down on my couch, so yes it tried the legs upfront and it dont seem to work for me, so after some research i decided to try the R once i find it

I think that you may be very pleased with the comfort level on the R1150R. I rode mine from the east coast to San Diego and back last July ( 8,450 mi ) in 23 days of riding .The bike has a sports shield and a bead seat from Bead Rider..Its riding comfort surprised me.
I am 5'8",inseam is 29" and I was 65 at the time...never had a problem. Go for it.
I came off of a sport bike so my Rock feels like a Laz-E-Boy. I rode for about 7 hours this past weekend and didn't feel it a bit. I'm in the slightly younger crowd, so my knee's don't need WD-40 just yet . I love the bike and have never wanted to get back on one so badly...good luck with your search! The journey's just beginning
Hi there
I can speak to this subject as I used to be a cruiser owner. The problem with cruisers is you ride in the gynological position with your heels up. This forces you to ride on your tail bone. Solution is an aftermarket seat. Cheaper solution is to look in your phone book and see if anyone will modify your stock seat. Changing foam densiitis and changing the shape of the foam under the cover will accomplish the same as and aftermarket seat for a lot less money. Just about any other bike you ride on more of your ass instead of your tailbone so naturally it is more comfortable.
